I would say the Iphone/Itouch. It's far ahead of any other similar device. It's operating system is years away from anything else on the market, and there are already thousands of applications for various needs and wants. My two cents.

Plus Palm might run into some patent issues with their phone, which could possibly halt future development.

I've had several palm products before (phones and PDA's) and have given up on the brand. If those are your two choices, stick with apple.

I agree. Tho if you could it may be better to hold out for a while. Apple holds the multi-touch patents so Palm is battling it out with Apple. Though, it seems someone else is trying to jump in on the fun against Apple.
Also the new generation Ipod Touch is coming out this year. I am hoping that at refresh time, Apple Korea refreshes their prices as well. All prices here are at the 1,500 won to 1 US dollar rate.

the touch is the way to go. I would tell you the feature set but with the app store being an open programming system based on simple stuff like flash and html for the most part there is always going to be an app for what you need. want a currency converter. down load it. translater. download it.

the biggest draw back is that it uses wifi to get ALL of its information and they arent real big on bubbles here. still i would say touch hands down. however i havent spent any time with the palm. this is just the opinion of one satisfied customer.

If media is your priority, then it has to be an iPhone.

If everything else is a priority then it probably has to be the Pre.

Until it is out that is completely speculative though.

Palm probably won't hit any problems with Intellectual Property. Palm and Apple have a China/US thing going on in relation to IP: Mutually assured destruction.

Many of the features of the iPhone are patented by Palm and vice versa, they can't strike at each other, because they are both IP superpowers (sorry to stretch the metaphor.)

Oh and the Palm OS has some really advanced features, such as multitasking, background tasks, new ways of making system notifications, the calendar, a revolutionary task switching system that keeps each application live whilst being switched from. They will also be linked to Amazon's store for music. Of course the proof will be in the eating.

Apple managed to make the first truly usable touch mobile OS that was also incredibly stable and consistently responsive. It looks like Palm has managed to maintain these crucial elements whilst also having multiple running apps and a truly multitasking environment, which is of course was the ultimate compromise with the Apple OS.

The 3.0 iPhone software seems to be nothing new and nothing special, apart from push and a few other capabilities added. But, we will see.

I would be curious what patents Palm might have over Apple considering that Apple was the first company to develop and produce the modern PDA, the Newton, in 1989.

Although I agree completely that both Apple and Palm are being ripped off in China, and it's quite sad to see the Chinese government do little about it. If China had any IP to even rip off and America tried to do it, China would call foul.

But back to the Pre vs. Iphone. The Pre is only in it's first generation, which means bugs, etc, that initial users will have to deal with. Also the fact that the Iphone has thousands of apps, many useful, is huge. Pre is relying on the infrastructure that apple has already created, I mean it uses Itunes to sync mp3s.

What makes the Iphone such a killer is the applications. There are so many great apps it's insane. I have a professional quality music maker/mixer and other art themed apps that are cheap and high quality.

Early reviews of the Pre say that it's keyboard is too small and it has a cheapish build quality. While I've had my itouch in my pocket with out a any type of special protector and it's scratchless and dentless, it's like a rock.

Old School apple video about one of their first PDA's before the genre name was coined and was invented by them.

The interface of Newton looks better than alot of Korean PDAs or media players.

http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/01/23/palm.on.risk.of.apple.suit/

"Pre's multi-touch screen may violate Apple's own patents for the iPhone with the assertion that Palm has many of its own "fundamental patents" for mobile devices that would let it fend off challenges regardless of which firm might make the accusation. The company is often credited with inventing the smartphone through the Treo and includes single-touch screens with every current smartphone it makes.

"Palm has a long history of innovation that is reflected in our products and robust patent portfolio," Fox says. "If faced with legal action, we are confident that we have the tools necessary to defend ourselves."

I can't find the link to the original article I read on this, it was by Engadget, they asked some patent lawyers to look at the respective IP of both companies, they came to the conclusion that Palm has a ton of patents that Apple has potentially infringed upon and vice versa hence, mutually assured destruction.
