I have an F-5 Visa and was under the impression that I never had to go through the backround check thing, but my employer, a GNB school, just made me fill out a document for a backround check by the local education office. Isn't this wrong. Can somebody tell me please.

When you get an F visa, I believe part of the delay is for immigration to run a background check on you.
I imagine that if the visa was issued, then there were no problems with their check.
The school could check very easily with your arc and immi., or just verify that immi are happy with their checks before issuing an F visa.
I got an online one anyway, just to have if ever asked.

If it is just a local check, our Hagwon had all teachers, Korean and Foreign, go through this check. It could be that they are implementing similar standards.

If it's a local check and you're not paying for it, not really a big deal.
If an F visa holder or any other teacher breaks the law, then the school should know or be able to find out.

As a permanent resident, if the school wants to do a CRC at their expense, let them do it. This is nothing different than I went through in the States as an educator for more than 20 years. there is nothing wrong with it and it actually works to your benefit. Most likely they are simply going to do a local police check anyway.

As an F5 holder myself, I would laugh at any employer that asked me to do a CRC. They do a complete background check on us when we get the permanent residence card. There are so many opportunities for us (in Seoul) anyway. But if they're footing the bill, go ahead and let them. But ask me to jump through more hoops with an F5? Ha.

Didnt think the MoE asks for a CRC, as far as I know the only document they want to see is a dilploma. A CRC is an immigration requirement.

I think your hagwon is unfamiliar with the F visa.

Hagwons are supposed to run a local criminal check on all teachers. You fill out the form and the Korean police provide it. It's no big deal.

Scouse Mouse knows from what I believe is personal experience of the situation. As I said, no worries if the MOE wants to do the check at their own cost.

I just have to ask, why the H are you working for a GnB franchise on an F visa/????!!!!!!

I can understand if it's a PT job. Howver, PT jobs don't really ask for CRC, etc. The F on the back of your arc is all it usually takes.

I hope you are doing a PT and I hope the school asked because they just don't knop what you got.
