I am thinking about going to Palawan for my summer vacation. Wondering if anyone has been, and can recommend people to talk to for cheap flights. The other thing I'm wondering is what there is to do there that you can recommend? I have a week vacation and would like to fill it up!
Thanks! |

Cebu air has a sale on right now from Korea. My wife and I are both flying to Manila and back for 280,000 won tax inluded for both tickets combined. This is a 70 percent of sale. Cebu air is hard to deal with if you need to make changes, and we have had things stolen that weren't carry on. However they are cheap.
There is ferry and cheap flights to Puerta Princes from Manila.
Sabang is paradise on earth. Take the three day coast hike if you have time. |

Just keep in mind that the boat ride from Luzon/Manila to Palawan during the summer can be VERY bumpy due to rough seas. Do you get seasick easily? If so, look into flying into Palawan or think about a change of plans. |

i was there this past winter. unless you like scuba diving and snorkeling all the time i would stay away from coron, its off the northern tip of palawan. not much to do there if you want to do other things besides those. but everyone there is super friendly and usually you dont need a reservation for anything. boat rental for the day is like $20 and you go to private beaches costing you $1 for as long as you want. very beautiful. i would avoid manila unless for flying or for 1-2 day. after 2 days got really bored. |

I was in Palawan for two weeks in the winter. Flew to Puerto the day after arriving in Manila. Immediately hopped on a Jeepney to Sabang. Stayed there a few days to chill out. Took a boat to Port Barton. Stayed a day. Took a boat to El Nido and stayed there for the remaining week or so.
I did a PADI course there, so that way nice. Found a place to stay that was about 14,000 won at the time per night. It's called Hadefe's Beach Front Cottages....fantastic place, the owners are very kind.
When I left, I took a van from El Nido to Palawan and flew to Manila (same day...van ride was about 6 hours and bumpy).
I loved Palawan. It was gorgeous and relaxing. Very reasonable to travel around as long as you're ok with huts and cold showers. Also, I went with my partner, so we had company with each other....if I had been by myself I might have gotten a bit bored. In El Nido, there are loads of day trips you can make by boat or by walking.
PM if you want more information. I spent roughly 1.7 million for two weeks including my 600,000 won PADI course and airfare. |

DId you like Port Barton?
------------
For myself, I went to Palawan a few years ago. I quite liked Puerto Princesa, and there are quite a few things around there that seem to be quite overlooked.
I also went to El Nido, and it's a good base for a lot of small island-hopping.
I didn't have time to see anything else...and keep thinking of a repeat visit for Port Barton...but seems like it might not be worth it.
I was also thinking of Coron, but sounds like it is very diver-centric. There is one island in Coron that is suppose to have 8 species of African mammals from the Serengheti which they put on an island to run wild and reproduce. I always thought that would be worth checking out... |

I'm really looking forward to going to El Nido, but am having a little bit of trouble getting to Busuanga without an overnight stay in Manilla. I've only got 7-8 days and don't really want to stay there if I don't have to.
How long does it take to get from Puerto Princessa to El-Nido if I wanted to get there quick? Jeep and Boat or what?
Thanks for the advice everyone! |

Tiger Beer: I can't really say much about Port Barton because I was there less than 24 hours, but from what I gathered it looked gorgeous. It's very quiet and laid back. I stayed at a small pension with a decent sized rooms, but beachfront cottages were also available if I wanted to wait a day or two to get one. The people in El Nido said the diving / snorkeling was better in Port Barton (loads of little islets and coves and quiet beaches for day trips). I wish I had spent more time there.
Eastcoastbanana: I just sent you an email. You can take an air conditioned minivan from Puerto to El Nido (6 hours)...not too expensive, but bumpy. |
