I am wearing shorts at work as I type this message.

We do have a dress code though. Girls can't wear spaghetti strap shirts. No one can wear ripped jeans. Guys need to have sleeves on their shirts, ie no muscle shirts or tank tops. Sandals are ok, but not flip-flop thong types. We want our teachers to feel comfortable, because that will affect how they feel in the class. This is not to slander those that wear suits to school. My dad wore a suit everyday for 40 years as a teacher. He felt comfortable in a suit.

We did have a teacher come in once wearing quite short shorts, where his package would fall out if he crossed and uncrossed his legs.

I did for about a month at my (public) school...and the Principal had a younger teacher tell me that men shouldn't wear shorts to school. The female teachers do...so it's one of those kooky double standards. BAH!

Never worn shorts to school, neither have I seen any Korean teachers.
I have super-light trousers/pants which I have started wearing this week as the temp has gone up. This and short, thin socks with loose sandals help keep me cool.
The staffroom is naturally cool, but some of the classrooms on the 3rd-5th floors are a little warm whilst teaching.

When outside, keeping the sun from hitting your skin is key to keeping cool.
The "Man from Delmonte" is onto something fashion wise.

My principal said something when I rolled up my jeans to make capris due to numerous mosquito bites. As with everything in Korea, shorts or no shorts depends on your school.

I've been told "No teachers wear shorts here." Darn it, it's the only drawback in teaching at a an all girls school.

At PS it would be a very bad idea. At a hagwon it all depends on the institutional atmosphere, but with adult students it would still be a bad move.

I think the only time you can wear shorts at a public school is for volleyball.

I haven't gotten a complaint yet. Do you think that I should ask the co-teacher if it is okay to wear shorts in the afternoon? They haven't said anything about it to me. I even jogged right by the Principle with a little kid by my side the other day, and he just gave me the thumb up sign. It would be nice if Koreans were more direct about somethings.

Remember it's always easier to apologize in Korea than ask permission.
