A friend of mine worked there. They have split shifts. AM's are for teaching adults. Afternoons are for their kids classes and evenings are for adults again. It's a long, split day. The owner, apparently, also works there as a teacher and Korean teachers have been seen running up the seven flights of stairs in order to punch in on time. Yes, there is a time clock. If the place is really "kicking" as another poster said, it would be because they finally have a good group of foreign teachers, who're creating a decent atmosphere. The school is located right next to Geumjeong station, which is a transfer station for the number one and four subway lines. If you take this job, you need to be careful of the owner. He has been known to take a very hard line with those who leave early for public school or university jobs. The housing is in a villa building about a fifteen minute walk through the Geumjeong entertainment district and it is very small.
Frankly, I think you can do better. Good luck. |

Thanks so much for the advice. I don't think the salary was high enough either for working a split shift. They told me I could do privates, which is quite scary that they mentioned it. |

Legally, you cannot do privates. You would need to have an F visa. My friend got roped into signing for 2 million won for her first year, which was a pittance for how many hours she had to work on the split shift. However, some of the Korean teachers there are pretty nice. One of them, in fact, wrote an English coversation book, which my friend suspects partly came from all the times he picked the foreign teacher's brains for ideas, etc. |
