Could it be done in a 45-minute lesson or does it take too long to dry?

I made one once for a mon-wed-fri group of kids. We made it with papier mache on the Monday, painted, decorated and filled it with candy on the Wednesday, then destroyed it on the Friday.

But, yeah. The papier mache needs at least one day to dry.

You could make an instant ghetto-style one with cardboard.

I made some from newspaper, tape and balloons.

Never seen a real one though...

They took between 5 and 10 whacks with a baseball bat
(by the blindfolded kids)
They were suspended from the basketball hoop by a string, so the blows just swung it about.

how hard it is to destroy is going to depend on how many layers of paper mache you use (btw how do people get those accents in their posts?)

how many layers also would effect the drying time - and with the humidity these days it might take longer unless you have a sunny window to place it it.


if it's good and dry it will become brittle - so let it dry really well in a hot dry spot.

then when it's hit it will crack and not long after break open.
