The school under my E2 visa terminated my contract and I found another job with a public HS is Yeosu. However, I have never worked in a smaller city in Korea. What will the transition be like? I suppose one thing that is attractive about Yeosu is scuba diving. I have been diving for a few years and want to get my dive masters. That's one of the reasons of what interested me in the position. However, I have no idea what actual life is like there.

Has anyone ever changed locations from Seoul and moved out to a smaller city? What was your transition like? More specifically, what is life in Yeosu like for foreigners?

A lot of foreigners seem pretty content in Yeosu, though for me personally it was not so great because the mountain biking was crap (nice scenery though). Compared to Seoul you'll find a far narrower range of people to meet, whether Korean or foreign. The foreigners for example are largely composed of English teachers and a few people from the shipping industry. There's nothing like the diversity you get in Seoul, and not a single Indian restaurant .etc.

As for scuba diving, yep, that might be ok. I knew of some Korean scuba divers who were monitoring the state of the harbour water and so on. Maybe I could scratch out some extra information for you

I understand that Yeosu does not offer near the diversity of Seoul, but is it like living in a ghost town? I mean is it basically a place where i will be bored out of my skull? By in rights, Seoul is an easy place to live and it is easy to get around and speak to people. However, moving to a place with 1/10 the population can be a different story. I am guessing I will have to really increase my level of Korean just to do day to day life activities.

Perhaps Seoul has spoiled me too much.
