A few people I've met from Daegu said it was the hicksville of Korea. I formed the impression that it was a rural town in Korea without much Western influence.

I have just visited Daegu and my expectations of what it would be like are contradicted - there are clubs/bars/restaurants to suit a variety of tastes in the downtown area. I live in Busan and Daegu seems to have a higher concentration of Western bars/restaurants in one area (Busan has more, only they are spread out). It seems like an exciting place to be and there is a vibrant nightlife (at least on Saturdays).

However, I'm skeptical. Whenever I visit a place it seems perfect. When you have to live there it's a different matter.

So, Daegu people...what do you think of life in Daegu?

life is great here... we can enjoy both city ( bars,restaurant,.......) and countryside ( mountain , hiking......) and 45 minutes drive to beach to summer.

Pretty typical Korean medium-big sized city, but is a lot better than people make it out to be.

i lived in daegu for one year. lived near to kyung book univ. as opposed to close by gaemyung univ. to my knowledge those are the two common areas to live. the first 6 or so months i loved living there. had costco, great nightlife, cool hikes and bike rides all nearby. second half of the year became a bit of a drag. once i got over the same generic bar scenes and close-minded attitude of the korean girls... i was ready to move on. after living in seoul for the past six months i reckon perhaps i took daegu for granted. it is great living there cause is more compact but still a well-populated city. (third largest in korea after busan) also you got the beach and pohang/ulsan/busan fairly close by.

This is about the 10th time I have posted this, but Daegu is way better than I expected. I have been here since February, and maybe I just got lucky and met a great group of people to hang out with, but every weekend seems better than the last.

This last weekend about 20 of us went to a microbrewery that had all you could drink and eat for 16,000 won until 9pm. And it had entertainment to boot.

I like Busan a lot too, but the only things it has over Daegu are the closer beaches.

Guys will you please keep this information to yourselves! We want all the new teachers to go to Seoul, right?

Lived in Daegu for over a year and it has pretty much everything I need. For those who think it's 'Hicksville', that's fine, too. They don't need to come here.

I lived in Daegu for almost 2 and half years and Daejeon now. I prefer Daejeon but probably because my job and apartment are much better here. I lived near KNU, and it is a fun place to live.
