The d80 is a discontinued model.. I believe they replaced it with the d90.
It has an auto focus motor in the camera (thus being able to use older lenses)
The d5000 is a brand new model... it is rated lower than the d90 though.
It doesn't have an auto focus motor (so you will need to buy newer lenses (which have a motor in the lense).
It can also do video. It has the moving lcd at the back, but not sure how useful that is (because you would need to be in live mode to use it).
I think if it were me.. and I didn't have the money for a d90 I would probably go for a d5000. Anyone else want to give an opinion

also, if you do pick one up.. the VR lense is the one you want.. it is a great invention.. |
Haha, alright thanks a lot. Well according to a lot of reviews, the video feater on the D5000 is almost unusable without a tripod. Apparently it creates a jelly effect or something if you move at all while filming.
I had no idea the D80 was discontinued. I do know the 90 is a little bit out of our price range though, a few hundred bucks can make a big difference . Like I said, the lenses aren't a problem for us, so I think if we can find a decent deal on a D5000 we're gonna go for that. We're heading over the Yongsan today because we'll be in the area, so I'll let you know what I see and what the pricing is after that. Thanks again! |

Well, The electronics market has tons of D5000s. I think the base price was around 850,000 won. We tested out the 80 and 5000, and ended up really liking the D80, so we bought it with a 28-70 mm Sigma DG lens, 900,000 won.
Do you think this was a decent price for the camera and lens, or did we get ripped off? We got a pretty decent price for the body, but I don't really know much about lenses so... |

If you go to Namdaemun, don't go to Yesdica. The guy is shady, and there are much better places down the road.
The D5000 is a decent camera, but the price is way too much for what it is. You should strongly look into the D90 instead. The D90 is the same camera with a higher resolution screen and more advanced options that you will grow into.
Probably could find a good deal on a used one. |

It is a bit more than on gmarket.. you could have possibly got about 50,000 or so less. (for the body). Seems like an ok deal though

Care to elaborate why? He has always been much lower than the other stores in my experience (and a bunch of my friends). Everyone else was quoting prices at least 50,000 - 100,000 higher. |

I've posted complete exhausted reasons a few times before, so I won't go on another complete rant. But basically the guy is cheaper than a used car sales man, and speaks a bunch of BS. He'll pretend to be your friend by giving you vitamin c drinks, but later be an sleazy sales man. Long story short, he sold me a faulty used lens and I had a hard time getting it replaced.
I forget the name of the store I go into now, but they are alot better than Yesdica and probably like 5 or 6, or so, shops down. Their asking prices are the lowest on the street, imo. |

I always shop at YESDICA, and while I have never had a problem, the guy is a complete A-hole. He was actually polite to me last time I was in there, but that is once when I have been there there over 10 times. The only reason I go back is because he has the lowest price 95% of the time and I have never had a problem with any of the stuff I have bought there. If I could find a place that was cheaper than him, I would go there instead, but I have yet to find that place and I always look around beforehand.
Anyways, good job not getting the D5000. It is overpriced for what it is mainly because of its gimmicky rotating screen. |

Ha, thanks. Yea we figured for the price the D80 was our best bet. We already love it, it fits my hands perfectly and takes great pictures. I guess I wouldn't recommend the D5000 to anyone unless you are planning on using the crap out of the HD video feature. And if you plan to, make sure you get a tripod because it blurs if you move it at all.
Thanks for all your input! |

When you guys say Namdaemun, do you mean the individual brand stores, or that one place with all of the dealer booths? Or somewhere else?
Where is this Yesdica place?
I'm thinking about getting myself a DSLR. |

| Use the directions, then check out the area and shop around. I seriously do NOT recommend Yesdica. You can get lower prices from other stores around there. I've bought a good bit from Namdeamun, and Yesdica is the sleaziest from any I've been to. |
