I stress tested the CPU and GPU for 4 hours and it's completely stable. Never overclocked the CPU because I like to keep the fans running as quitely as possible.

I'll also throw in a usb 2.0 hub, an HDMI cable, an optical cable, and a tube of Arctic Cooling Silver 5.

Not a very good deal on that .250 gig hd ? My comp from 2 years ago was that big . 4 gigs ram ? Why not 8 ? Vista Ultimate isn't that great, Vista Premium is much more efficient.

Wes, you are saying it's not a good deal on two out of all the other components. I have two more sticks of RAM i can put in to make it 8GB, and an extra hard drive to bring it up to 500GB.

Also, what do you mean that Home Premium is more efficient? The only thing Home Premium will do is save you money and hard drive space becuase it is cheaper and has fewer features.

Right now I'm running the PC with only 4GB because I went back to the 32bit version of Vista. Vista x64 has a lot of trouble with wireless PCI cards. Also, as hard as I tried, I could never get programs to commit more than 3GB of RAM. I'm actually curious to know if anybody that is doing non-scientific or pro video editing actually has gotten an application to use more than 4 GB of RAM.

i'm curious, what does the case look like? is it pretty compact? and what about temperatures and air flow?

You are looking at 500,000 to 600,000 for this. In fact, I will offer 400,000 without the monitor. Too small for my liking.

Update: Pic is up. As you can see, there are no scratches on the surface of the case. I hadn't said that the CPU is a black edition (though all 720's are). The top DVD panel has the dvd drive inside, the bottom one is an empty 5.25" and the next one down is a 3.5" slot. The one that says USB has one firewire, two usb, mic, and headphone inputs hidden. The back left corner you can see the antenna for the wireless. It's magnetic so you can move that around wherever. The case is sturdy enough for you to stack stuff on top. I used to have my Wii on top of it.

There is a metal sheet that runs through the case separating it into an upper and lower compartment. The bottom is practically free of all cables and is where the air flows over the MB/CPU/GPU.

I'll post some pictures soon. The case is not exactly compact. I chose one that was large enough to fit a full ATX power supply and a PCI-Express video card (plus enough room for airflow.) The excess cabling, HD, power supply and DVD writer are in a seperate compartment so that there is enough airflow over the motherboard, cpu, and gpu.

Airflow is fine, but I wanted the PC to be quiet, so the intake fans are running at half speed, and there is a low air flow fan on the CPU. If you intend to play games while doing some encoding in the background, then you are going to have to crank up the fans.

CPU: 36C idle, 54C after several hours of stressing all three cores at 100%.

Keep in mind that I am offering to sell the computer with legit software that can be fully activated with Microsoft's servers. The retail price alone for that is pretty high. If I had the original installation CD's with me, I would be asking for a considerable amount of money. (And then nobody would want to buy it...) I didn't pay retail price because my parents run a non-profit in the States (so we have multiple product keys with a single installation source), but the price I paid was approximately $450USD for both Windows and Office. Also, the software is all in English, not in Korean.

The reason I'm selling it at a loss is that 1) I have a tendency to buy more stuff than what I need, so I have more product keys, and 2) Since the activation is tied to the hardware I don't want to go through the hassle of calling Microsoft everytime I want to reinstall using these product keys.

If you want a better deal, I don't have a problem keeping the product keys to myself. To be honest, I would also prefer to hang on to the monitor because it's not that hard to take along with me and I'd rather not sell it at a loss.

However, 400,000 is a bit low on that, especially since I put in aftermarket coolers and fans (and I changed the fan on the Zalman cooler to make it even more silent), wireless keyboard/mouse, and I'm also including the wireless lan card, logitech webcam, bluetooth, HDMI cable, optical audio cable, syringe of thermal paste, etc. You'll notice that I didn't build it with generic components as well. It's a pretty solid system.

The original plan was that I would settle down and begin my PhD work, so I built a system that would last me 5+ years without a hassle (I even calculated the energy consumption of each component to figure out the typical/max power load the power supply would be put through.) Needless to say, Korea doesn't offer the best opportunities as far post-graduate work goes, and I need to get out of here and start building my career. So it's a double whammy on the money. Lose on this system, and then go out and buy a laptop...

On the processor, AM3 CPU's were designed to be backwards compatible with AM2+ boards to provide an easy upgrade path.

AM3 supports DDR3 and AM2 supports DDR2. I chose DDR2 because the higher cost of DDR3 is not justified by the meager 3-5% performance increase. The higher bandwidth is eaten up by the higher latency of current memory modules. Sometime in the next 16-24 months, DDR3 density, clock speed, and latency will increase system performance by 10-15%, while being priced comparably to what DDR2 is today. At that point you buy a new motherboard, new memory modules, bump up the clock on your black edition Phenom II, and you got yourself a serious piece of hardware on your hands. This processor can be taken up to 3.7Ghz on air, stable.

AM2 / 3 is a memory module spec? Wow...I'm really out of the AMD loop. I thought it was a CPU socket spec.

Yes, the Black Editions are seriously cool; like Intel's "Extreme Edition" processors, but without the huge price tag.

Great looking case there as well.

The memory controller is integrated to the processor. Phenom II's have both a DDR3 and DDR2 on die. If you seat it on an AM3 board, the DDR3 controller is activated, and on an AM2+ you get the other one.

The danish is not for sale.

I got an offer for 600,000 w/ the extra ram and hard drive, but w/o the monitor.
