Does anyone have any links to discount/cheap airlines that fly from Korea to other Asian countries?

Thanks for any help!

Forget it, Korea doesn't allow cheap airlines like Ryan air and Easy Jet as it's a protectionist controlled market. I've researched this and your only options are to use a travel agent. I also heard Cathay Pacific and Cebu will directly sell to you, sometimes at good prices to Philippines and Hong Kong.

cheap airlines in Korea????
hahaha
Sorry they do not exist. Give a special heartfelt thanks to the isolationist, protectionist policies of the government here.
The above poster was correct. You can get to The Phils cheap on Cebu and Cathy does have some cheap fares if you find a sale. China airlines, not Air China, also has some good fares withe layovers in Taipai.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I asked was because we saw some colorful planes at Gimpo airport a few months a go.

I asked my co-teacher what airline they were from and he sneered and said a cheap one!

It was maybe the Cebu one?

PS never, never fly Ryan Air! Embarassed

Can you give some details on why you would say "never, never fly ryanair" ?? I've flown with them several times with almost no problems at all. I've had a couple of late flights (20-30 minutes) but considering the entire cost of the flight was less than 25 euros I didn't consider this to be much of an inconveniece. To be fair, I've only checked luggage with them once.

Easy now, Jeju Air flies to Osaka and somewhere else in Japan I can't figure out (my korean isnt the best!) from what I can make out, their cheapest fare on the website (www.jejuair.net) is 180,000 return. Unfortunately, the website is all in Korean, but they do have a 'waygook' option to register.

tiger air were scheduled to start some time in 2009 with domestic routes and also flights to japan, china, russia and mongolia
but the plan was scraped in december 2008

Quote:
Incheon city, west of Seoul and the site of the country's main international airport, originally planned to apply for a licence in September (2008) and launch the joint venture by the end of this year.

The city and its affiliates would have owned 51 percent of the joint venture while Tiger would have held 49 percent.

The project sparked strong protests from four South Korean budget carriers, which claimed the venture would be effectively controlled by Tiger since the city lacks airline experience.

South Korean domestic aviation law bans Korean airlines from being more than 50 percent foreign-controlled, and the local budget carriers accused Tiger of attempting to use "the mask of a Korean carrier".

the korean carriers don't go to russia, china or mongolia and only selected cities in japan. they rather complain than compete. tiger had already purchased extra planes and all. they ended up just putting up their hands and walking away from korea. wasting a massive investment chance for the city of incheon.

these are your options
http://www.jejuair.net/
http://www.jinair.com/
http://www.eastarjet.com/
http://flyairbusan.com/AB/airbusan/main.jsp

other than a few to japan, international routes are pretty much non existent
jejuair use to fly incheon to bangkok, but no more

china, hongkong, taiwan or the philippines.
http://www.cebupacificair.com/ flies to manilla
china eastern, china southern, air china, asiana, korean air are competitive to various cities in china

zest used to fly manilla-incheon but no more
viva macau used to fly to busan but no more
JAL express are supposedly adding flights but nothing yet
