Hi guys. Need some help here. I have a friend she is a licensed teacher back home in US. She is being laid off because of budget crisis next month. She is thinking about coming here. Now, because she is a licensed teacher and has 2 years experience teaching in high school. What do you think is her best choice. I don't think she should teach in just public schools here. Maybe she should apply for one of those foreign schools here in Korea. If you know of information on the name and websites of these schools I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

That could be good, too. Or teacher manager. Might need to work here in Korea a while before you'd be able to be a teacher manager, though... gotta learn the culture and all.

Hong Kong NET program. She's wasting her time in Korea.

I'm a certified teacher in the states. I taught 4 years in the public schools there. I've been teaching here through EPIK the past 2 years. My combined experience of PS teaching in Korea and the States allowed me to get a pretty sweet University job next semester. Never heard of the Hong Kong NET program, but I don't feel as if I've wasted my time here at all.

I'm glad you've remained satisfied and are optimistic. Look into the NET program there in H.K., though. Seriously. Also, what do you consider a 'sweet' university job?

Always good to hear of a satisfied teacher. No offense implied. Just going from what I've heard from good friends who have been teaching both here and in H.K. for years now.

The better international schools might still make for a better career option in Korea, or even the DOD schools. Just my 2 cents.

2 years PS HS in the States, certified, 2 years ESL in Japan. 1 Year subbing.

I was going into the HK NET program until they pushed back the hiring date because of the olympics so I wound up in Korea instead Smile

Personally, I enjoy working at my public school and while a University sounds tempting, it also means a significant increase in paperwork and not outstanding job security.

There are a variety of opportunities around the world for home qualified teachers. Unless she has a personal interest in Korea, I think that she should spend some time thoroughly looking through those possibilities. I know a teacher who was in a similar situation who went to Brazil, and she seems to be quite pleased with her choice.
