Been hearing here about people getting burgled recently which has me thinking about getting some kind of insurance. I had a search but was unable to find anything.

What I'm talking about, in the UK, is called contents insurance. It means, all your personal stuff is insured but you don't pay to insure anything about the building. It's specifically for people who rent. In the UK, it's usually very cheap, perhaps less than 50 quid for the whole year, depending on the area. Does anyone know of anything like this over here?

And while I'm asking about insurance, does anyone have any recommendations for cheap, private health insurance? I've also heard a few stories about people getting in medical trouble over here, so if I can insure myself for cheap, it would be a little more peace of mind. I'm all signed up to the government one, so I'm only really looking for something that would cover the extreme situations, like long hospital stays or whatever.

Apologies if this has been covered repeatedly before - I did have a search but found nothing that suited my situation.

You're thinking of renters insurance.

You can also get renters insurance from Samsung, Lotte, and a host of other places:

I've just taken out contents insurance with AIG - dealt with a guy called Kevin/Kim Jong So. It cost 220k for the year but there were cheaper packages.
Let me know if you want his contact details.

I had comprehensive travel insurance but it was kind of spendy, so I let it lapse. I got it from my travel agent when I came here just over a year ago. It covered me for a year and claimed to cover everything. I think it would have cost around $800 US for the year. Anybody else have experience with this type of cover? I have heard that travel insurance can be quite low quality with regards to paying out.

Trying to decide whether or not to renew it. I missed the renewal time and have to get a new policy, which is kind of red flag right there. So, what do you think? Anyone else have experience with this?

Wesharris and Bassexpander - Cheers for replying, I'll check it out.

Snowflake - Yes please. Especially if the guy can speak English passebly, it would be a bonus.

Rusty - I had something similar when I first came out here and didn't bother renewing it. It's expensive because it covers all the stuff like emergency medical evacuation to your home country. I didn't bother to renew it because most of my basic needs are covered by the local stuff, though I'm now thinking about getting a domestic policy that would cover any serious situations.
