I searched, but couldn't find what I was really looking for..
So, I have Crohn's and will need to refill my Rx soonish. Would that be possible here? I don't have insurance in the US anymore so it would be expensive to get it sent from over there.
And if it is possible, where do I need to get it done? I have the prescription from my US doctor, but I don't know if that would do me any good.
Also, I need to get a blood test sometime and was wondering if that is an easy thing to do? I live near Asan, but haven't been there yet so I don't know if I'd need an appointment or what.
Any help is very appreciated! Thanks. |

| I have epilepsy, and had the same worries when I first came to Korea. My school pointed out an English speaking doctor nearby, though, and all worries disappeared. I brought my prescription from America, but pharmacies here don't accept them. The doctor here took my history and wrote a prescription for me, no problem. Without insurance in America, my meds cost over $100/month. Here, it costs 16,000 won/month. When I go home for the summer, the doctor makes sure that I have enough to cover while I am there. It saves a LOT of money. I also have to have bloodwork done every 6 months, and it's also no problem. Everything, medically speaking, is so much cheaper here! I hope that you are able to find a good doctor! |

Make sure you're on the local insurance too just in case something happens.
I had a coworker with epilepsy and she used to get her meds sent over. Hers might have been more severe than yours, but she missed her meds one day and ended up having a seizure at home. Unfortunately it ended up with her head bouncing on the kitchen cupboard door after a heavy fall.
She had concussion and a massive head wound that required plastic surgery. We weren't on Korean health insurance at the time and so the boss 'generously' paid half of her medical costs. It still ended up costing her around $3,000 or more (plus docked pay for missing work).
Since you're receiving prescription drugs already I guess you must be registered on the health system already. If there are any other readers who are not, but are in a similar medical situation, then I urge them to make sure they are covered. |
