Little background:

I recently switched jobs. My last contract/visa ended last week. I was told I wouldn't need another CBC because I haven't left Korea and my last CBC was issued less than 6 months ago.

Immi is saying now that they don't have my last CBC on file. It's because EPIK has it and was never processed through immigration, or something like that. So now that I'm in Korea, haven't left, the one thing holding me back is the CBC. My exit order will expire in 2 weeks.

What are my options? Leave Korea, come back as tourist, and wait until my new CBC arrives to apply?

Unfortunately, Oregon only issues CBC checks with fingerprints provided. What are my options in terms of ordering from Korea? I've heard of people ordering their CBCs from different states, is this proven effective?

Any insight would be helpful.

I am by no means a visa expert, but this sounds like your best option to me.

I got my CBC by swearing an affadavit at the US Embassy giving limited power of attorney to my mother to do a background check on me. She did that and expressed mailed it to me...It took about two weeks, so you could have someone you trust do a CBC for you in another state...but I'd be real worried about your 2 week deadline, since if you overstay your visa you will have to fly back home anyway to do the consul interview...that is the penalty for visa infractions these days. Your best best is to go to Japan and hang around as a tourist until the CBC arrives, IMO.

Would it be possible to stay with the first school for a while? What I am thinking is, stay with the first, extend your visa, and then change locations. You may not need a CBC in that case. EPIK would still have it in their records, so extending shouldn't be a problem.

Why not try to track down your CBC from epik? It's probably your POE that has it on file.

They dont need the original once they have verified it. Also, you no longer work for them so why do they need it?

Unfortunately, that means you will have endless circular conversations with the intent of having you give up instead of pursuing it to the point of someone doing some extra work to track it down.

your best bet is to find out exactly where it is - office wise - and go there yourself, then follow what the others said - i.e., get a copy somehow, verified of course.

doubt EPIK will give you back the original, tho

You don't have to have EPIK give you back the original...Get EPIK to give the original CBC to the immigration office you are going to. Immi is the one who needs the CBC anyway..not EPIK. Once immi has it in their system scanned...it is ok..That is what immi told me and it worked for me.

Good replies, thanks.

Worst case scenario though, if I need to order another set, does it actually work from states you have never resided in? Like I said, mine requires fingerprints, which will take more time and money.

I've heard of people ordering from other states and it being accepted. Confirm/deny?
