It may or may not be spam, but it's certainly useful. Thanks OP

How about uploading a zip file of all the content?

If you can actually read the words on the avatar picture your eyes are much better than mine... though he does also have it under the picture itself- is that what you really want changed? Smile

What if he just updated less often...as opposed to every time he added a single worksheet or two? I could see the frequency being a nuisance potentially, but not the content in and of itself. Asking him to remove the link to his book on his own site is SILLY.

So everyone who posts resources (or really anything) on Daves that has a link to their own site or blog, and on that site or blog they have something that potentially generates profit peripherally to the original site MUST remove those secondary links? RIIIIIIIGHT... Smile

If he is directly pimping his book in the forum itself (and I don't just mean a link under his avatar), then that is spam; if he is posting every time he updates a tiny little thing, then that is annoying, but not more so than posters WHO LIST THEIR THREADS IN ALL CAPS or a hundred other things more worthy of going after on this forum.

Thanks Ifun.

That is a really good idea. Perhaps in the near future, I'll do so. I just don't know how many people would REALLY want to have everything on my site. But, good idea. thanks!

This is a good idea. I'll update it once a week rather than whenever I make something (which is often). It'll save me a lot of hassle. Good idea. Smile

Scott,

My book isn't my avatar. It'd be better if you knew what you were talking about before making such accusations. Futhermore, I don't advertise my book on this site. Again, you are making accusations that are unfounded. You should be careful when doing so.

Anyways,

Updated - vocabulary Jeopardy (I got the idea from KoRussian. He has a much better one. This is just a really basic one with the sounds from Jeopardy). It can be found under PowerPoint. I can't believe I forgot to upload this one. Found it in my old files.

Last update for a week! Very Happy

I am sorry...you are saying that the web address under your avatar doesn't take me directly to a website where you are selling your listening book and where I can eagerly await your writing book.

Really, just be honest and admit that every update you offer keeps your thread on the front page and allows you to advertise a site where you are selling things. Anything else is slightly dishonest.

Jesus, Man. You still don't get it do you? If anything, you are the one keeping my page on the "front" section. Really, you have too much time on your hands to think that this is why I have my ralph's esl junction site there, for the purpose of the book. Seriously, get...a...life and find a different hobby. After meeting you at Smokey Saloon's, I would have never pinned you as the obsessive type. I guess I was wrong.

Of course the address below my avatar takes you to my book's site. But, you didn't say that before. You said my avatar is my book. If you don't like my site, don't go there. If you don't like this thread, don't keep posting in it. If you don't like the free stuff I have on my site for teachers, don't download them. If you don't like the fact that you are wrong and your opinion is just that, an opinion of no merit what-so-ever, deal with it as you have no choice or say in the matter.

It's that simple, really! I'm done trying to reason with you and answering your allegations. Keep posting your crap if you'd like. That's your perogative afterall.

Cubanlord, you have to realize that when it comes to professional development on this forum, there's always someone who wants to fight you. Trust me. They're the ones with nothing of material to speak of.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm really surprised to be honest with you. A dude on this board actually offers his materials up for free to help other teachers out and people lash out at him and accuse him of going the extra mile or worse yet, they get jealous and angry over it (that's what it seems like to me anyways) and display their emotions all over a message board.

I saw it happen to DDeubel on this site and even though he and I see things differently (on one instance), I really respect his efforts and what he has done. Yet, there were the handful that were hell-bent on tearing his hard work apart. I'm not referring to those offering constructive criticism either. Aynways, que sera, sera. He'll keep moaning and groaning while I keep updating my site and helping others out. It's that plain and simple. Though, I am a little embarrassed at how he keeps demonstrating the amount of free-time he has and how much time from that free-time he actually spends in my thread. I don't know, perhaps it is flattering? Cool

Actually, you don't get it. I don't have any problem with your own personal website. I wouldn't use the materials from it, but I never use material from other people's sites. They rarely fit my style of teaching or the level that I teach.

I don't have a problem with people who offer up free materials for other teachers to use. I think it is great. I am always happy to offer help when people ask for it.

The only thing I have a problem with is you advertising the site where you sell your book here on Dave's for free. You used to have a pic of your book and then you changed it to this pic of one of the web pages from the site. You did this some time ago..I am not saying you did it recently.

You think my 3-4 posts on this thread really compare to the multitude of updates you have made in the last little while. Not even close...and it took maybe a total of 15 mins to post on this thread.

The only reason I responded the last time was the veiled little threat in one of your last posts. That I should be careful about making accusations...and I am responding again because of your little dig about being jealous about your site or your book. I have been to the site...I have read some of your articles...and I can safely say that I am not jealous.

I hope you sell tons of books...and I hope your writing book comes out the way you want and you sell a lot of those, too. I hope teachers visit your site and find things that help them in their classes...but I do wish you wouldn't advertise on this site without paying someone.

i think youre missing the misleading nature of how youre going about things.

scott made a point about your avatar, but its not the picture that i think is the problem, it is the location which is to a website address and a book that you are selling for money. and the free material youve posted is not really there at all. in fact it sits on another site entirely which you dont directly state. its kind of like a bait and switch.

look this from an outside perspective:

someone reads a thread called "A gift from me to all of you that peruse this site..."

they click on it and see that it is for a website with stuff for them, resources even, for teaching.

but there is no link to that site or any mention of it in the update youve made.

this person could go back to the beginning of the thread and try to find this great site you advertise, or they could plug in the address youre supplying with your avatar (and then if they do, they instantly see that your avatar is the site they are brought to and it does not have the materials suggested, but it does have materials that they need to pay for).

either way, they have to seriously click around for "the gift".

if you took the link to your book out of your profile or linked the real site in each of your updates it would feel like youre actually giving a gift and not just spamming this forum or scamming for a buck.

Good Grief. Here we go again. How can you say that there is no link to the site with all of the resources? Almost every update has the link immediately following it. Seriously, people really need to stop reaching here. Take a minute and open your eyes VK, honestly. If you can't see that almost every update I have made over the past few weeks has the link to the site there, then you probably shouldn't be using the materials there. It's harsh, I know, but seriously, if you can't follow the basic link that I provide in the posts, then you shouldn't be using anything on the site, period.

Further, I don't say to follow the link under my location, do I? That isn't "Ralph's ESL Junction" is it? A simple read and a minute amount of information processing on your part would quickly remedy the problem that you describe above.

Sheesh. Really people. Argue about something that makes sense! Rolling Eyes

If anything I have hear the word junction toooooo many times. I can't help but picture some sort of hillbilly hagwon filled with moonshine and english.

Okay,

I have thought about it for a couple of days and have come to the following conclusion. The point of this thread is to share my resources that I create with other teachers, not to bicker about irrelvant things or things that some people just can't get their head around. Enough is enough. For the sake of getting back to this thread's original purpose and flow, I have adjusted a few of the things that 2 people had concerns about. This is all I will do. Again, if you don't like my contents, then don't download them.

The changes I have made should make it even easier than it already was to find the information. You can easily click on the www button just below, you can follow the link in the location area under the avatar, or, you can simply click on the link I usually provide in the updates.
