Found this.

i found this as well, but somehow i doubt the legitamcy of that site. surely 13 is not correct and the people that refute it there provide no source.

and that bothers you...

whats wrong with wanting to find the answer? a curious mind will seek, ask and search until the real answer is found. no matter the topic. what if we asked "is pi exactly 3.14 or something else.... nobody knows... oh well, guess it doesnt matter. i'll just say 3.15 to be safe"

Why do you want to know the answer to THIS particular question though? As you say, you are not interested in dating someone of questionable age so it's a rather worthless piece of trivia, no?

the same reason i wanted to know the history of ice coffee yesterday.

the same reason i wanted to know how many state senators hawaii had last week.

the same reason i wanted to know how many provinces are in north korea.

the same reason i wanted to read about the boxer rebellion in china.

some people have a curious mind. it may just be random, useless trivia to u, but all knowledge is power.

Asian law can seem pretty ambiguous.

With regards to that http://www.ageofconsent.com/korea.htm website, I'd say that there's a good chance it's true.

Almost no Japanese people are aware of the age of consent there, but it's 13 for girls and 16 for guys. People tend to give different numbers, but a professor of mine (when I was studying in Yokohama) found the actual law--really hard to find.

Wouldn't discount 13.

I agree 100%

There's nothing wrong with being curious. I wanted to find out how stars were created, so I took a course in Astronomy. I'm not planning on creating a red giant, but atleast I know how.

What exactly is wrong with the OP asking this question?

Was actually on that age of consent website a few weeks ago

It all felt a bit pervy, but some of the ages made for quite interesting reading I was probably most shocked by Spain at 13, and Korea at 13 also I mean, they were just 2 countries where I couldnt see the age of consent being 13, at all especially when you looked at age of consent in countries you would assume it'd be lower...

And having lived in Korea I never actually heard the age of consent explicitly mentioned because well, there was never a need for it but none of my experience suggested it would be as low as 13 I would expect to hear about more exploitation if 13 was the legal age

This thread keeps on coming up again and again and again..

I am in contact with a FBI Special Agent in New York City and asked the Special Agent regarding the legal age -

here is the answer -

I am in a squad that works all crimes against children matters. Our program covers crimes including but not limited to: international parental kidnapping, child sexual exploitation on the Internet, child prostitution, and child sex tourism, human trafficking, child abductions, child serial murder cases, etc. If there is an interstate nexus (within the continental US) or an international aspect to the case the FBI will most likely have jurisdiction in that matter.

With this mission in mind, we are aware of certain American citizens who travel abroad for the purposes of engaging in a sex act with a minor (a child that has not obtained the age of 16) , and sometimes they have taken videos and pictures and other "mementos" from their trip. We consider this production of child pornography and it is a crime that carries severe penalties. The FBI and our other federal law enforcement partners (and our global counterparts) are fighting the war against child sexual exploitation in any form, be it sex tours abroad, cyberspace, etc.

The FBI says - if you do it anywhere with someone under the age of 16 - in any country - then they are interested in arresting you! (p.s. - the korean police will probably arrest you anyway - if you do it with someone below the age of 19yo)

If the answer is 'no' to any of these questions its time to keep walking.

Even a lot of girls over 25 can't legally drive, haven't developed as if they have gone through puberty, and shopping is still #1 on their list.

I think if you want to be safer, ask if they have a curfew. If they say no, then ask if they are already married. You only have a year or two in between curfew and marriage it seems... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

this is such a common question and only a responsible guy would bother to ask. those who do not ask and instead feign ignorance are the ones to be dubious of.

that said most websites used say 13 to 14, some 16, and more recently, 18.

Koreans generally dont know the answer, but the unofficial one goes like this:

if you are Korean, age is not an issue (this is reflected in a lot of Korean society's attitudes towards women and girls)

if you are Western, 20 or more preferably, over 30 (when women are considered useless for marriage)

One thing that wasn't mentioned that I have to wonder:

Even if the age of consent is pretty young, there is probably a difference between a Korean who goes and does something with an underage girl and a foreigner.

Since foreigners are already circumspect to so much regulations and stereotypes, I believe the OP and his friends should just pass on seeking out such girls within Korea.

Honestly, most 20 something Korean girls are about as innocent and immature as teenagers back home. Therefore, if you are looking for innocent girls, there are already tons of legal ones out there. Go find them.

And like the guy posted above: some countries have laws that will hurt you when you go back home if you have sex with underage girls. Canada is one such country.

No. A responsible guy would not be wondering if he could have sex with children (and at 13 years old, that is a child). A responsible guy would date women closer to his age and not have to ever wonder. All this, "I'm just a curious guy" talk is BS. It's like a fundamentalist muslim asking how to build a bomb vest "just because he is curious and likes to know things." Coming from a NET with access to children and like it or not, stereotyped as a possible pedophile, this is a question that should not be asked in public forums. You just add to the stereotype. If you were that curious, you could have just googled it yourself.

There was a Korean movie about a child bride or something like that. Story was about a school teacher who was married to one of his students. He happened to teach her in one of his classes as well. Was a funny show, but it still bordered on a taboo area in my books.

on the contrary, i believe it is an important topic for forum discussion. nobody here is talking about having sex with children but you. i seriously doubt the OP or many guys see a girl who is obviously underage and wonder if they could have a shag.

what likely happens is that some 20 year-old FOB meets a girl who is in a gray area because she says shes 18 or 19 and the guy knows Koreans tack extra years on age here and is concerned about what is appropriate and doesnt want to end up in jail or at a police station because of his own ignorance.

telling someone to google for the "answer" is a sophism partially because there is such conflicting information. the better and safer course of action is to pose the question here, semi-anonymously, where people with more experience living in Korea can postulate a more accurate answer and give better advice.

There is a Korean movie based on a true story called the Green Chair. Which is about an older woman who had relations with a boy who was 19 at the time, when the age of consent in Korea is apparently 20.
