Do not forget Mu and Lemuria. And the Indians say there was a continent called Rutas to their south.

Also, Pellucidar.

Everyone is making the same mistake here. The question is not a matter of geography, it is a matter of politics, and politically there are 7 continents. Geography doesn't come into it.

Africa, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, South America , North America, Australia.

(Australia is also the name of a country not to be confused with the continent that also has the south pacific islands in it)

There are NO islands that do not belong to a continent. Everywhere on the Earth has been politically mapped out out, nowhere has been missed. The most isolated islands on Earth are the Hawaiian islands and they have been taken by the USA, so do you really think other islands closer to land masses haven't been taken by someone and added to their continent?

Russia is in both Europe and Asia, as is Turkey. Asia is linked by land to both Europe and Africa. Europe is linked by land to Asia and is very close to Africa. Some European islands are closer to Africa than Europe. South America is linked by land to North America. Forget about geography when discussing continents as it doesn't mean a thing.

The delineation between Europe and Asia as separate continents dates back to the Classical Greeks. At that time they were (apparently) not aware that Eurasia is one geological landmass. The delineations of the continents do vary somewhat according to culture, but geologically speaking Europe and Asia are one unit.

This cool map lays it out (some).
