Gangnam Party Draws Korean Media Ire
Apparently there was an out of control night club party in Gangnam and it didnt even involve English teachers that is drawing the ire of the Korean media:

A lewd bar party, with no foreigners this time, in which some idiot took pictures and put them on the net.
Rule: don't take incriminating pictures. If you must, don't friggin' post them! |

I don't know what the big deal is. I'm not being facetious, I don't know: is it that this type of behavior was going on, or is it that it was photographed?
If it's the former . . . honestly, are people going to pretend they have no idea what goes on inside the nightclubs and booking clubs? Walk through downtown---any downtown---and the bikis are grabbing girls off the streets, and walk into any club and you'll see people getting on each other.
If it's the latter, it's not uncommon. Browse websites for nightclubs and booking clubs and you'll find a lot more of the same.
I posted some pictures back in December. Some aren't work safe (lingerie, upskirts):

They were taken off various parts of the website for this Gangnam club. Because some were uploaded by users, it makes one question if they have hidden cameras in the boothes, or if perverts are snapping the pics themselves.

Okay, on my friend's computer, I saw it. Most of the time if you are with Korean friends and you get turned away from some night club like that, there's going to be some freaky stuff like a strip contest or nude dancers running around, that they don't want the waygooks to know about.
I heard about that firsthand from a student I used to teach and his mother-in-law owned a few night clubs and they would do that every once in awhile, particularly if business was slowing down. |

After English Spectrum Gate there were quite a few news stories about Korean night clubs having strip contests and other "sexy" shows.
These were strictly 'no foreigners allowed'.
I didn't mind so much as it's part of young Korea's sexual liberation.
However, it was very telling that these parties did not recieve even a fraction of the backlash that the English Spectrum wet tshirt party did.
Why did I even post this?
a few reasons:
-interesting evidence that young Koreans are still moving forward in terms of sexual liberation, getting beyond the idea that "good girls don't" and any guy who wants to have a good time needs to pay for it (directly, at least).
-it shows that it's not just "dirty foreigners" who party and "innocent Koreans" are just victims.
-hypocrisy that so much of Korean GDP is based on the sex industry while pretending to be so "moral" and pure- that the ubiquitious sex industry is just a figment of our imaginations or "just here because of those evil American G.I.s".
I forgot whose quote it is, but it's true about moral indignation being 10% moral and 90% envy.
I'm not saying that we should just do whatever we want, whenever, but the moral indignation is ridiculous!
There are so many people who get upset at others having a good time mostly because they are jealous that they are not brave enough to do what they really would like to.
Just remember Jimmy Swaggart preaching against immorality while he secretly loved to go whoring! I bet that's what he's doing right now! |

Not true. There were several foreigners there. At least a dozen that I could discern in the unpixelated photos. I blame them. |

Now that I am an old fart I wouldn't be caught dead in a club. I would rather sit home and watch Law and Order or read a book. I prefer dimly lit dive bars with those 70ish reddish colored booths and black ceilings. You know, the places where you ask for a vodka with a splash of tonic for $3.50, the kind that after one cocktail you are feeling good, unlike in a club where you pay three times that for a watered down twink drink.
The problem with clubs is that as the night wears on those places turn into sausage fests. When the chicks start leaving that is when the testosterone starts flowing and fights break out. |

Of those dozen or so foreigners in the photos, most were women, and only one (a guy, natch) was actually doing more than watching the Korean "clubbing culture". Out of 300+ photos. It was the Koreans that were topless or sprawled out with their skirts up to their armpits or lezzing it up for the masses, not the waegs. The waegs were simply standing around with a drink in their hand. Sometimes not even that.
But at the end of the day, it's "our" fault. |
