That means that some museums and parks may be closed or open with limited hours, and that the subway system will be running on the Sunday/holiday schedule. Make your plans accordingly. That is all. |

Unfortunately we're being forced to work this weekend.. national holiday? Local school board doesn't care~ Instead, let's plan a big "camp" requiring all the schools in the area to participate (including the korean teachers). ;_______;
Though, my handler informed me that we (the two of us) got assigned to our area for just a bit, and the rest of the time we're just taking pictures I would've gone insane if I had to ask the same questions (my school got stuck with immigration office) for 5 hours straight. |

Every Saturday is a holiday for me and only every other Saturday is a holiday for the Korean teachers as they work until 1PM 2 Saturdays a month. Too bad the government doesn't set holidays to fall on Mondays, but set them on Saturdays.
As for the mechanics and other blue collar workers, no day is a holiday as they work a straight 7 each week, but getting off around an early 4PM instead of 8 or 9. They even work holidays. They live to work. |

Easy for you to say I'd rather my school not hate me for giving them a bad name by not showing up when the rest of the schools do.. and rather my kids not be disappointed with me not being there >_> |

You should be getting paid overtime for working on a Saturday. |

Sorry Misera I didn't read properly. If you've said yes then you have to do it.
I assumed it was something shoved on you at the last minute and you not being asked.
Gotta say no. |

Yea we found out about it last week. I actually heard from another friend first.. somehow their school got the full details way ahead of mine. Mine didn't even have what the whole thing was about until yesterday pretty much. I just got calls from friends going nuts for having to do the camp.. I assumed I was spared >_> but nope...... There will be like 50 teachers there each day :[ I actually said no to begin with because I taught at another weekend camp just a few weeks back and was swamped with open class stuff (and other things they dumped in our laps..) but the way my handler kept on begging meant that the school would seriously lose face or something else if we didn't show. It wasn't really a can you go thing, more of a, you're assigned to this day and this is your topic. No questions. >_> |

You're stuck with it then. I would be seeking a big favour in return. Don't save it up it'll be forgotten about. |

That's certainly not the case, it's just what you're being told. The schools get notified by the Office of Education about upcoming events.

Two things about this bit. First, your "handler" was begging because she probably already promised you'd do it without checking with you first. No doubt, she "thought it would be okay" because you already showed up on a Saturday for work.
Second, it doesn't matter what words they toss around at you, the contract is still in force. As another poster mentioned, learn to say no to things outside your contract. |

And don't let your "handler" purport the claim that everything is up to the principal, she's just scared to lose face and tell the principal that you refused to "volunteer" your time to help out. Dude, I seriously doubt this story anyway. That's why you should always keep a copy of your contract with you at work. Anything like this is a violation of the Labor Law and the MOE knows it but they just exploit all employees out of fear of contract termination. |
