|
|
Hello,
I have been offered a public school position with Incheon Office of Education, however I haven't had a proper interview? I had a quick chat with the recruiter when I first applied just to check the age group I wanted to teach and locations but that has been all. I just wanted to know if this is normal?
Many Thanks

| On my first day of work at a public school the principal asked if he could see my resume. |

So its normal (for Korea) then? I was a bit worried that it may be some sort of scam!?
Thank you for responding so quickly! |

You speak english naturally as a native speaker...you convinced them of that on the phone.
Incheon I suspect would be very cool I hope. I think you may be lucky.
They will bring up other things as you go along. Co operation about what they bring up later would probably be appreciated.
Also did they not mention some training?
Good luck... |

My public school hired me w/o an interview. The recruiter told them I was a native speaker, and their teachers are nowhere near native-speaker fluency, so they just took his word for it.
Usually the only time they have someone call and interview you is if they are native speakers (eg, the last teacher) or someone who spent a lot of time in the states, which probably means they aren't a public school teacher
Don't worry about it. They're probably terrified of talking to you. |

Thank you all for your replies.
They did mention an orientation and training when I arrive, apparently Incheon has one of the best orientations so I am pleased about that!
I am a bit nervous, first time I have done anything like this so was very shocked when it all happened so fast!
Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I want to make sure I have everything covered before I accept. I haven't been told a school or area of Incheon yet so I can't ask for photos or email addresses of other teachers etc!
Thanks again

| I think you should not accept the job since you didn't earn it the proper way with an interview. You should try your luck in Cambodia. |

They don't ever seem to want to plan ahead or do things properly in this country. How this place developed economically in such a short time I will never know. |

| Incheon city actually extends all the way out to the Incheon airport on Yeongjong-Yongyu Island. That is about 45 min from Incheon Downtown. Maybe ask to make sure you are not on Yeongjong-Yongyu Island. I read a few post about people not like it there. Or if you want to be in the "countryside", maybe that would be OK. |
