How does the cost of appliances: mixers, blenders, crock pots, etc bought in Korea compare with the price of them in the U.S.?

When you say mixer, do you mean a hand mixer? We bought an ultra-cheap one with a German name which was probably made in China (sure feels like it) for maybe 30,000 at Homeplus.

Real quality stuff with Western brand names tend to be a lot more expensive here. Cheap stuff can be had for average prices, but is of cheap quality.

There are a variety of no-name crockpots available for lower prices you'd expect like at Wal-mart in the USA.

mmmm... dunno how it compares.

I bought a very small blender for 40k on sale, but it also doubles as a strainer.

A cheap rice cooker is about 50k

I've never found a crocpot. Anyone know what they're called in Korean?

hmm my rice cooker from the LG store was 50k.. 5 cups size. My friend's also from another LG store was 20k (3 cups or whatever the smaller size is). I have found my rice cooker for cheaper online though so if you're gonna get appliances, check the prices online first. It'll probably be cheaper.

dnshop.com or gmarket

We bought a crock pot a few months ago... couldn't find a high quality one. They're called 'slow cookers' here. Apparently, they were a big fad a few years ago for healthy cooking and such, but now they're a fringe item. I think ours was 30,000 or so won at yongsan.

Buy it used and you'll be fine....cooking expats aren't gonna ship it, so they gotta sell it when they leave.

We have the 250,000 Cuckoo model. My wife bought it before we were married. It really IS better if you eat a fair amount of rice. We also buy some of the better rice.

It really tastes good. I never enjoyed/craved rice before, but now I do. I kind of freak-out my Korean family though, because I butter it with "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter."
