Quote:
A court in North Korea has sentenced two US journalists to 12 years' hard labour, state media say.

Euna Lee, a Korean-American, and Laura Ling, a Chinese-American, were found guilty of "hostile acts" and illegal entry into the communist state.

They were arrested in March after allegedly crossing into North Korea from China.

The trial comes amid growing tensions over North Korea's nuclear programme which is prompting US-led sanctions.

I think N. Korea is in a position to exhibit some power and due to the ongoing strained relationships or lack of any, have done this sentencing to the max in my opinion.

This is so awful I cant even imagine what it must be like for them or their families. The only good thing is that they probably wont be in there that long, at least thats what 'experts' are saying, they're pretty much going to be used for bargaining and might be out in 5 weeks.

Those sons of bitches!

I firmly believe that if those two girls are given 12 year sentences hard labour in North Korea, they might as well be life sentences.

I have always been more of a dove than a hawk, but I think it's time to get very hardline with North Korea and either completely cut them off from all international aid to the point where their own people have to revolt in order to feed themselves.

And also China should be sanctioned for not doing more on this issue. It is thought that they may have been turned over to the North by their lovely Chinese allies.

actually, they might not go to labour camps..
they mght try and be brainwashed like those military guys
desnock etc from the korean war..
they were subjected to North Korean brainwashing 12 hours a day, forced to memorize their bible and language...
once they showed they were accepting of the dear leader they were allowed to live semi normal lives, they were given wives and a house. also forced to work as English Teachers..
I HOPE these women get similar treatment.. well of course I hope they get released, but if they don't, I hope they don't have to do forced labour in a North Korean prison camp. but instead are subjected to his brain washing and they comply with his teachings it wont be as bad as a labor camp...

MAN!! It's about time North Korea is taken more seriously..
forget IRAN and pakistan.. its time to show the world what America can really do!! IRAQ wasn't even 50% of what America is packing...

To any ordinary North Korean it would be a death sentence.
But they may probably get relatively good treatment. Bargaining chips are worth more alive...

If NK is planning to use them as bargaining chips I doubt they will go to a real labor camp. The country wouldn't want them to come home and publicize the Nazi-like conditions of the camps.

The good news is that they were not convicted on the espionage charges. Yea, I know... that's really gonna cheer them up. Mad
