Will a recruiter tell me if my co-teacher has given me a lousy reference? My co-teacher is nice to me but I just don't trust her whatsoever in regards about what she says behind my back.
All I want is to be able to explain my side of any story if thats the case - I am a bit worried as I am applying for some plum jobs at the moment and they seem to be dependent on my co-teachers reference. |

If you're that suspicious don't use her. Perhaps a veiled bribe would help. If this is a public school ask other teachers or the VP for a reference.
You could test her by getting a friend to call up pretending to be a new school. |

Your statement says a lot on how things must work in Korea. |

I'd second asking the VP for a reference directly, if you're suspicious of your coteachers true intent. Get the VP's phone number, too. Or the Principals phone number.

Forget about a transparent appeal process in Korea. Your side will be totally ignored. You have the face saving game to contend with in Korea. A VP or Principal will never admit that the advice they got from a coteacher was flawed / wrong / biassed / malicious. |

So it's now necessary to have good references to get a job in Korea like it is in the ultra competitive American job market? How does one get a job in either place without references? I think this references thing has been blown way out of proportion and is ineffective as a counting beans test as people rarely give positive speeches about the one who jumped ship. I always wondered how you get executive level references who will bat for you. |
