Hey Guys,
This school is in Suwon...I have 2 years experience 1 year working with EPIK and 1 year at a private school. I am not to sure about what the going rate would be in Seoul area...I was working in Jeju prior to this.....any help would be appreciated...Cheers

Letter of Contract
The Board of Directors of The ________ School of English at __________ Korea and (The Teacher) agree to a contract for regular full-time english teacher.
English teaching as follows.
1. Period of Contract : From to
2. Salary day: 12 times in a year on the last day of each month.
3. Working Days : 5days per week (2pm-10pm) Monday~Friday
4. Employment Obligations
A) Not to be employed by any other agencies during the contract period
B) To notify employer 60 days in advance when the employee wants to resign
C) If breaking the contract for personal reasons, he or she has to pay the total amount of the airplane ticket, which is provided by The Gangnam School of English
D) If the actual number of teaching hours scheduled for any given teaching term is less than your contracted hours, the teacher will be required to devote the remaining hours to related academic work under the supervision of the Director.
E) The teacher is required to prepare student evaluations, keep accurate records of student attendance and performance, consult with parents, supervise play, have a bimonthly telephone conference with the students, and attend workshops and teacher's meetings.
5. Benefits
A) Payment
ⅰ) A total monthly salary of W2.4M will be paid on the last of the following month.
ⅱ) For all work over your contracted hours per month, the teacher will receive Won 18,000 per 50minutes.
ⅲ) The Gangnam School of English will provide the teacher with 10 days Vacations both in winter(5days) and summer(5days)
ⅳ) On completion of one's responsibilities of the full contract period,
W2.4M will be paid as severance pay.
If you don't finish your full contract, the _____________School of English do
not provide return air fare and severance hours.
ⅴ) Tax is applied the same as Koreans.
6. Housing
The teacher will be provided at no cost with a furnished apartment/house including air-conditioned bed with TV, VCR, and refrigerator. The teacher will be responsible for all utilities.
7. Health Insurance
A) The teacher will have health, accidental injury, and death coverage through proper Insurance Company Limited. The school will pay 50% of the monthly premium on behalf of the teacher.
8. Air plane ticket
The Gangnam School of English will provide one way ticket from to Seoul. In case the teacher leaves before completion of 6 months of the contract, the teacher shall pay back to the Gangnam School of English the total amount of the airfare.
9. Governing Law
This agreement shall be governed and constructed by the laws of the Republic of Korea IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the undersigned parties have executed the agreement as of the date first above written.

That's the entire contract! Just a few things that come to mind are:
Pension. Terms of termination by employer. Severnence. Return plane ticket. The contract should be in English AND Korean.
I've got class now. Don't sign this contract as is. |

While I would normally agree (Kaaaaaaaaaaant), most of those contracts seem to get ignored. >_>
I perused the thread to attempt to find some sort of "guideline" myself, but no one ever posts there except to post contracts. |

If certain rulings are not in the contract, there is still the labor law that counts. |

10 vacation days blows. Standard for that many years should be at least 18 days.
Also no mention of sick days.
And what if you want to find your own apartment, since they will set you up in a shit hole most likely. There should eb a clause in their about how much they would be willing to pay a month and in key money if you want to find your own place.
and yea pension, return ticket, visa run(or flight over ticket) and health care need to be included as well. |
