tourists in luang prabang were old. like grandma and grandpa old.
tourists in vang vieng were the kao san road type. large packs of really wasted frat boys and girls.
tourists in vientiane were kinda bored, although i loved that city. most people were stopping there for a few days and then moving on.
tourists in si phan don were great. fun and crazy but not frat boy retarded. we were having our daily ritual banana pancakes when suddenly spiderman and superman appeared from out of nowhere and jumped over the restaurant's railing into the river. and i assumed superheroes would have been vacationing in their regular street wear. |

not sure i agree with all of the generalizations listed.
i met some really cool, younger folks (early-late twenties) in luang prabang. the beehive and some little bar owned by a norwegian guy drew them out at night.
vang vieng can get a bit overboard, but there were a lot more israeli hippies than "frat boys." everyone was wasted though.
i agree about si phan don. seems like a lot less people make it over there, and most of the people i met were interesting and fun.
it rained most of the time i was in ventianne, so i spent more time in restaurants and bars than anywhere else. met a lot of ngo types.
rest assured, you'll have a good time. |
