I am trying to call a friend from Japan, not I have looked at the internet and tried a few different combinations of numbers but it doesn't seem to work.

I am with Oz, which is SK?

I have tried 0011 81 90 xxxxxx and 006 81 90 xxxxxxxx///does anybody have any ideas of how I can work this out?

You want: 001 - 81 - area code - number
Works when I need to call my gf in a pinch...

(Might want to double check and make sure that you're friend has given you the right area code and number)

I am trying to call a mobile, I didn't think a mobile needed an area code if you called it

You can just get an international phone card from 711 or family mart- it'll cost much less than calling directly from your phone.
For a 10,000KRW card, I get 200 minutes to call the US.
The directions are all on the card.
