Okay so here's my situation.

I have to go to Seoul this summer for personal reasons(wife is moving there). I started my contract at EPIK in late February. My six months ends at the end of August. I just learned that my vacation will be for the entire month of August. Fall semester doesn't start until August 31st.

What I want to do is put in my one month notice at the end of July, and still be on payroll during vacation until end of August but not work so I will get my vacation pay and get to keep travel allowance and settlement allowance. I figure the school will also have a much easier time replacing me because the new fall semester recruits will be coming at that time.

What do you think? I'm afraid the school might fire me immediately and try to take my travel allowance and not give me any vacation. I figure I'm entitled to one vacation since I worked half the contract(the contract lists 2 vacation periods for the full year).

"I've worked 5 months of my one-year contract & heres my letter of resignation. You owe me one month's paid vacation. Oh, & thanks for the plane ticket & settlement cash."

Good luck.

Could Schwa have put this any better? I don't think so.

Well I could wait until the end of august and just tell them I'm quitting that day. Either way I'm entitled to entrance allowance and one months vacation. I just figured it's better I give them one months notice to grab one of the incoming teachers for fall semester.

Maybe from what you're telling me, I shouldn't give them notice if they will just screw me over.

When exactly?

I'm not telling you to flee. That's what you want you're willing people to say for you, I suppose. You should tell them you're quitting as soon as possible (e.g. now).

You're already scheming now, I can tell.

Am I wrong? EPIK gives you, what, 2 weeks vacation time, and your school is kindly giving you an extra 2 weeks. Worst comes to worst, you take your contracted vacation time, then tell them you're quitting so you can make sure you get just those 2 weeks. I wouldn't try to take 4 weeks and then quit.

You're shady, man.

Now, I'm going back to game two of the Lakers v. Magic, and I won't visit this thread again until I'm finished with it. Why? Because you're shady -- and you might try to ruin it for me, Mr. Shady.

Huh? People are telling me I won't get anything, if I give notice in July. What I'm really worried about is I give notice at the end of July, they fire me immediately before the vacation, so I will have worked only 5 months, so they force me to give back travel allowance and I don't get any of the vacation. THAT'S what I'm afraid of.

If I give notice 2 weeks into August like you say, and they fire me immediately, then I will only have completed 5 months and 2 weeks. Not at the 6 month cut off point yet for retaining the allowance. So if they fire me at that point I'm screwed.

Ok, I checked back. I couldn't resist.

So, I'm right. EPIK gives you two weeks, and your school is not making you desk warm for an extra two weeks?

I'm afraid you're going to give white people a bad name. Yea, I said it.
