Hi,

From my research I have learned that Korea uses a CDMA cell system. Is this still true?

That would also mean bringing an unlocked phone with me would be useless because they are GSM usually. Though Canada does have some CDMA systems so I may be able to find an unlocked CDMA phone.

How does renting a phone work? How come I can not own my phone?

Thank you

A GSM unlocked (the key is UNLOCKED) 3g cell phone can work in Korea. I am currently using my LG KS20 (unlocked) with a kt usim.

However, the trick is getting the sim card. I had to basically sign up for a cheap free cell phone (with a sim), then just put the sim in smart phone.

The phone must be unlocked or this will not work at all!

Logan... did you bring your phone from North America or Europe? I tried the exact same thing you described with my iPhone 3G and it simply wouldn't work.

Where did you get your sim card? I've been trying to do this since I got here, even with the help of my Korean friends, to no avail.

by a KT USIM do you mean a show sim card?! i tried to bring in my 3g n95 to a sk tel and they told me they dont 'support' the phone and because it wasnt a supported model the imei wouldnt work on their network.

im going to grab the show nokia 6201s in a couple of days regardless then see if an n97 will work with its' sim when i get back from canada.
