Got this from a recruiter and am looking for information about this school's reputation. Also, I visited Daejeon this spring and wasn't impressed. Did I miss something or is it really boring there? Maybe it's not for me. If so, somebody else can take it...

They're behind the times. The labor law was changed to make it 15 days. It's been that way for a number of years.

Can you prove that?

You mean other than it being in black and white in the Labor Standards Act?

Read it and set yourself free. It's on the Ministry of Labor's website.

*Most* hagwons I know of still only offer the 10 days. That doesn't mean I don't believe Young Frank, but the only places I have seen that offer over 15 days are the public schools and Universities.

Check the Labor Standards Act - Article 60.

By the way, what happened to Seogwipo? Scooter, new girlfriend, tan...? Next thing I know, you're thinking about Daejeon - no tans to be had there Ed.

I read the LSA in Article 60 where it talks about paid leave. Section (3) seems to say 15 days is the rule if leave is given before the end of a year.

Can you name some hagwons that offer such a thing? Can you provide any anecdotal evidence that informing a hagwon owner of this rule gets the number of leave days changed to 15?

I'm skeptical. Public school and universities are the main ones who will be in line with this. Do you fit into this category?

I will browse the contracts thread to look for any that offer 15 days of paid vacation.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for hagwons living up to labor standards, but I'm completely surpised to find 15 days is the legal amount of paid vacation. I had believed 10 days was the legal standard...

LOL. Yeah, I was in Haeundae last week for 8 days and it was hard to pull myself away from the beach. I found two hagwon jobs in Seogwipo that are opening soon and am in contact with them. This posting about Daejeon is merely me continuing to weigh my options.

I'm looking into renting an apartment, or finding a goshiwon in the Seogwipo/Jungmun area so I can spend the next 7 weeks there before taking another job offer I've been given in Daegu making 700,000 more a month and teaching TOEFL iBT. So this difference in money multiplied by 13 equals a hefty amount of change and that's hard to pass. And the Daegu job doesn't start until August, so I've got time to kill.
