So, I'll be heading off in August having enjoyed 2-years with EPIK.
Firstly, my last day of my contract is August 28th and my final pay check will be on August 17th. When I first arrived, I was paid a full months pay after only 2-weeks, so can I assume that I won't be paid for the period after my final paycheck up till the date I leave?
Secondly, Airfare reimbursement. I know it's in my contract, but I'm having trouble digging it out atm. Am I right in thinking that the fixed reimbursement rate is 1.3 million?
Cheers.

1) Really? thats different than what my school did. I started 2 weeks into the pay period so my first paycheque was only for half a month. So even though my contract is up Sept 6, I will still recieve a paycheque for 2 weeks work on Sept 25. Or maybe they will give it to me on my last day, either way is fine by me.
2) No if you are through EPIk then your 2008 contract states that the school will provide an airfare ticket for you to return home and not 1.3million won. |

I believe you get the money after you return home. They reimburse you upon your return to your home country if you leave Korea within 10 days of your contract finishing. |

Yes, I've heard this is true for some nutty schools. However, most schools will reimburse the airfare before leaving the country. Insist on getting it before you leave the country and don't take "no" for an answer.
And for 2008 contract, you get returning airfare reimbursed, but no 1.3 million. There is no limit as to how much they'll reimbuse so if your one way home airfare costs 10 million, I'm sure they'll have to pay up. |

Check the Korean Labor Laws. I don't know if there is now a good site up with an English translation of them or not.
When I left the ESL industry in 2000, according to the Labor Law - an English translation of which you could buy in Kyobo Bookstore in Seoul - employers couldn't withhold pay or bonuses after the contract had expired. By the law o that time, they had to settle up with all money owed at the end. |

It's okay, just cleared it up with my CT.
Apparently, as I was in fact paid for a month within 2-weeks of arriving, my final paycheck will be on the 17th.
The school will refund my airfare on production of a receipt before I leave Korea, which is good.
One other thing, does anyone know if the contract completion bonus comes through with your final paycheck or does it get transfered into your bank account after you've left? |

Interesting. I'm going to have ticket problems this September when I finish. Wouldn't this law make the leave Korea within ten days clause useless, since the ticket date could be changed after the reimbursement? |
