Tob55,
Appreciate the information and speedy reply. I'm not in Korea at the moment, but it's a place we're considering because of job related issues.
The change in Korea's law makes it quite a lot easier to see making a life in Korea and it is something my wife and I are seriously considering.
Cheers!

Good to hear. Things can be good here if people are willing to work at it. I have thoroughly enjoyed my life here, and this is the place where my opportunities have increased career wise. Good luck on your plans, whatever they may be.

I don't understand the question. Was the immigration office right about what?

Just ignore the comments. It only serves to give people place to debate with you on things that are your personal business, even though you were open enough to share something on this forum about it. Get in touch with me via PM.

This isn't one of those MLM-type things for F-2/F-5s like a few years ago in Gangnam is it?

It's an AFEK thing. No cash will be asked for, no business opportunity will be presented, and no NDA will be signed Wink

It's a bunch of F-visa holders and their spouses meeting up and chatting over a few jugs of whatever you fancy. It is intended to be a first meeting, and there will be follow-ups organised (family days, kids days, etc).

It is a social for the F2 / F5 expats. An opportunity for some of those people to meet up with others for some downtime. No organization or business. Just people having a little fun like Scouse Mouse Said. Thanks to those of you who sent PMs

If you are an F2 / F5 visa holder and would like more information concerning the goings on with the current situations regarding the E series and other visa groups you can find several alternative sources through different blog spots and forums. Taking an interest in the events that impact foreign nationals residing in Korea is important for the whole expat community.

On another side note, hopefully a meeting will be set up soon to discuss the current concerns of F visa expats working in Korea. There are several issues regarding certain of the "freedoms" extended to F2 / F5 visa holders. I will post more when I get the information.

The F2 / F5 visa holders are working to put together a new wiki for general information purposes to expats living and working in Korea. It will be quite helpful and hopefully provide another resource for people to look to when considering their stay in Korea. It is in development and should have some interesting content available soon.

Hammer, have you joined AFEK yet? The social network thing seems to fit the parameters of what you were looking for the last time.

I've been looking through this monster thread for requirements for the F5.

Anyone care to share what requirements they had in order to get their F5?

I have 5 non consecutive years, (4 consecutive), been employed the entire time, but changed jobs 4 times (for better jobs not a bad relationship with my boss), and been married for 1 year. I have the money listed in the requirements. Still on my F2-1 and I want to apply for my F5.

Seems like I will have to wait a year based on the written requirements but I'm wondering if they are allowed to take things on a case by case basis. That would seem reasonable.

Any opinions or stories?

If you have been on your F-2-1 for 2 calendar years from the time your received your visa you can apply for the F-5 visa. It is no guarantee the immigration office will give to you. I heard recently that between 25% - 30% of the people applying do not get their F-5 visa on the first attempt for various reasons. I hope this helps. The length of stay you mentioned about 5 consecutive years is for someone who is not married to a Korean national. Because you are married to a Korean you only have to maintain your F-2-1 visa for two calendar years prior to applying.
