ARC = Alien Registraton Card, serves as your official 'ID' and has the expiry date of your period of sojourn. |

You MUST apply for one within 90 days, but I suggest you get right on it as it simplifies getting cell phones, internet service, health insurance (you need it to get health insurance, seeing as you are technically paying into health insurance from the moment you get into Korea on your E2, you may as well have the benefits of the health insurance, not to worry tho, you can always get refunded once you have your health insurance.) you need it so your school can register you with the MOE, Ministry of Education.
You are technically supposed to carry this ID with you at all time in Korea. |

you also get a number- sorta like a ssn back in the states
this number will help you obtain all the things polonius talked about.
you also need this to set up your bank acct in korea without having a guarantor from your school. up until around nov 08, foreigners could set up an acct with just a passport, but the laws have changed YET AGAIN.
ARCs are now required at all banks... (or so i've been told) |

You still can get a bank account with a passport, but if you then buy a phone, you need to go to the bank and add your ARC to the bank info. I don't know why, but some of my teachers have experienced this at Shinhan bank. |

Priceless, you have to teach me how to do that! That is almost just as nice as those that would post Dawson's whiny picture. |

This is priceless.
Let Me Google That For You
ARC--think Green Card. You didn't think the hoop-jumping and red tape ends with landing a job and getting a Visa? |
