Was wondering if internet access in Korea is similar to the plans you'd find in the states. ie $40 a month for unlimited broadband

or is it pay per mb, much more expensive, much cheaper??

I paid something like 35$ a month for unlimited. It was DSL of some sort and it was pretty fast.

Upto 40,000 원 for a TV, phone and internet package is the norm. There are more expensive ones, should you require one.

As a general rule, the Internet in Seoul is pretty much among the best in the world. Or close to it. Not just in speed, but in ease of access. WiBro is awsome if you have a notebook.

I'm in a new city and only one company provides my area with internet at the current time, and even so it's about W30,000/month. I get my cell and internet together for about W50,000. The download speed is around 40Mbps, and the upload from speedtest.net says 1Mbps, but I've uploaded torrents up to 6Mbps, so idk about that. Basically, 40Mbps is in the 98th percentile, and 6Mbps is 98th or 99th percentile in the world. Great internet. I just wish the people I download from had better uploads, haha.

Can you give me your ISP's contact info? I've tried calling a couple of these companies that posted fliers on my door but they didn't have any English speaking personnel who could assist me (my Korean's not that good yet) so if you could get me in touch with one of these low cost providers (that don't require 3 year contracts) that would be great!

thanks

I'm just using KT. I didn't do anything, my school did it all so I can't really tell you anything except ask your school or Korean friends. If your school isn't willing, they're not very friendly people. My friend's mom set me up with a phone contract since I can't get one. I even offered to pay the entire year's contract, up front, in cash, and they wouldn't do it. Haha, I laughed about that one.

I'm in Gangnam and the internet speeds here blow donkey butt...and i know it's nothing to do with the available bandwidth but the bandwidth caps the ISP puts in place.

Stats look ok but i know when i'm actually downloading something i barely get 1Mbps down, and maybe 600Kbps up.
