Are local background checks still accepted, or are only state and fbi checks good?
I am finding conflicting information on this and the consulates seem to be clueless when I contact them |

I came three weeks ago. I used a county CBC. It was free, and most police/sheriff offices have a notary public on staff. Call ahead to make sure they are there when you go. The notary public at my counties sheriff's office was thrown in for free also. Apostille from the secretary of state was $2 plus stamps. Don't wait to get a job offer. Do this as soon as possible. |

In my home state, a CBC takes about 15 minutes to get. I don't know how long the apostille takes. How long did it take to get your CRC apostilled, American? |

Illinois. If you do it by mail the apostille takes two weeks. If you live close enough to drive in to the office of index then 20 minutes plus travel time. |

I just got this email today from footprints. It looks like local background checks might not be accepted anymore.
In the past few weeks, Footprints has experienced some teachers with properly-completed local or county criminal background checks being denied visas at immigration. It seems they are moving toward accepting searches that are only at a state level or higher. Footprints inquiries this past week have led immigration officials to update the current information on their website and, although we havent received official word from anyone at Korean immigration, we are strongly urging all candidates to replace their local or county searches with a state level search.
Ensuring our teachers have the most up-to-date information and are most prepared to leave is very important to us. This has come up quite unexpectedly, and we do apologize for any inconvenience this will undoubtedly cause you. We do really hope this transition goes smoothly for you and that we can get you on a plane to Korea by your desired departure date. |

The jobs I've looked at the past few weeks demand state-wide checks. Some even want to be backed up with some sort of statement from the FBI. Not sure what this is or how one would get it.
In the not-to-distant future, we'll be required to submit FBI checks. That's the only check that will be accepted. |

In my home state, the actual check takes about 15 minutes to get, while the apostille takes two days. Just found out today. |

So about the new not accepting local checks...
Will this affect people who are looking to renew that used a local check to get their original visa? I hear that if you are renewing with the same school you do not need a new CRC. But if I applied for my current visa using a local CRC, will I be required to upgrade to a state one?
I will be renewing very shortly and wondering if I need to order a new one. Thanks! |

Sucks big time! I just got my county CBC today! Wasted $10 for nothing. They minus well ask for a nation-wide CBC because there won't be that much of a difference between state and county...especially if I've been here my whole life. Ee. |

If you haven't traveled out of the country, you shouldn't need a new BG check. Otherwise, you have to get one for every country you've visited while living there. |

How would they know if you traveled out of the country? And what if it was only for like a weekend or something? |
