I heard from a friend that David Nunan will be speaking at Ewha on the 25th.
Can anyone confirm or deny this, and would it be possible to crash this lecture? |

Ok... I'll bite. WTF is David Nunan and why should I care what he has to say?
If he has any pointers on how to control/educate (control first, education second...LOL) 38, fourteen-year-old K boys, I'd be all ears (and maybe I can give him a few tips). |

Cruisemonkey,
Get Reading!
He offers lots of insight in the areas of Learner centered classrooms and being a self directed and motivated teacher. His Learner centered curriculum was a book that first started me on the road to making a difference in my classes and not just slogging through..... Nunan also writes some damn good textbooks for young learners so he doesn't have his head in the sky.
Click on a book and get reading. You won't become a better teacher just by wishing one were so...

What the hell are you on about? Have you studied anything about TESOL? If you had, that name would stand out to you along with many others ... Rod Ellis comes to mind. |

| Could you list 1-2 of those good young learner text books that David Nunan has written. That way we might have a better idea of who this is and maybe even use them in class. |

I am pretty conservative and careful when recommending class books but don't have any problem recommending Go for it! for middle and high school.
Go to Nunan's website for information or google it to get more info. http://davidnunan.com/ There are a number of others Speak out, Listen in , Atlas come to mind.
No mention on his website of a forthcoming lecture but that doesn't mean a thing - these sites aren't updated frequently in most cases.....
Here's a brief interview for those wishing to know more about the man.

So what you guys are saying is that Nunan, in fact, doesn't write any coursebooks for young learners. He specializes in the seconday and adult market. |
