Technology for Youth Foundation (TFY) is an international non-profit organization that seeks to bridge the digital canyon among disadvantaged communities in developing countries.

TFY recognizes that access to information holds the key to the empowerment of marginalized people, particularly youth and women. The vision of Technology for Youth Foundation is to foster wealth creation, reduce unemployment and create self-sustaining communities by providing marginalized people in rural communities with the technology tools, training and resources to enable them to realize their greatest potential.

are they accepting any old computer?

I ask because I actually have an old notebook I need to get rid of - maybe they are rebuilding them or cannibalizing the parts -

it's a Samsung, maybe 2000 model? it runs fine but can't be upgraded and only has a 2 g hard drive - can't run win xp for that reason - only 95 or 98; can no longer use it on the internet because it's so slow.

it does work tho, has a floppy and cd peripherals.

let me know I'll be happy to donate it.

No need to look so far to see families in need.

My church has had no trouble finding needy homes in my neighborhood for the last two computers we gave away.

hmmm, well this is the first solicitation I've received that I could reply to here; perhaps if K made similar solicitations in E to the E-speaking community, people would respond in kind.

You are right, but I thought it was common knowledge that churches do this kind of thing.

well I've often donated clothing to churches but it would never occur to me to donate electronic goods such as a computer.

just don't think of them as having tech-savvy people around - especially for such an old machine - it really needs people who are involved in recycling them for vocational training, learning how to build them, that sort of thing. don't honestly believe churches are involved in that and if they were, they'd be reaching out, also considering their status, they could probably solicit donations from industry rather than individuals.
