The subject heading was not meant to be lurid. I just couldn't think of a better way to phrase in a line what I want to say.

Here's the story:

walking around very late this weekend, I recognized an ex-student of mine coming out of one of those hanky panky norebang places with a friend /co-worker? who had that look to her. You know the look, the one that says - hanky panky.

She was wearing way too much makeup but I recognized her anyways - she was a very tall girl and quite pretty - possibly the prettiest girl in her class.

She was only my student for a very brief time (several classes really) , as she was a senior in high school when I started and seniors at my school don't have English in their 2nd semester sr year.

Anyways, I kind of felt sad. I wish she had better options, though I suppose that's what happens when you're from a low socioeconomic area, go to a vocational hs and while there spend your time looking at yourself in the mirror 99% of the time.

I suppose it's still certainly a better option than working in some sweat shop or at a mcjob - so long as what she's doing is of her own free volition.

Though I fully support the existence and legality of hanky panky establishments, I'll admit I felt a little sad. Would have probably been sadder if I had her as a student for a longer time.

Anyone else ever come across ex students in somewhat similar circumstances?

I have this image of say Yum Bum Suk ordering "coffee" only to have an ex student show up on his doorstep Shocked

p.s. I am not suggesting YBS is a coffee drinker or even orders "coffee", (although if he does, that's fine by me) but he's a good e.g. as someone who's been around a certain place for several years)

way to pigeon-hole someone you absolutely don't know.

mind your own business...

you just come off as someone who's jealous of not being the one to play hanky-panky with the pretty student. it's actually sickening...

minding my own business if a fair enough answer. I can handle that.

I do actually - I really don't care what she does, so long as it's her choice.

as to your last comment, take your sneering insufferable sanctimony and shove it into the deep recesses of your rectum.

actually, I have nothing to be jealous of really. AND.. if I chose to play hanky panky I know where to find her now, don't I?

I fully support hanky panky btw.

sad when people start using Dave's as a forum to exchange voyeuristic fantasies of their students. what's the point of your thread besides soliciting material to wank off to?

Time to get over your protestant hangups about prostitution.

A large % of the female population engages in adult entertainment because the minimum wage is $4/hour.

Just get over your fascination with hookers. I suggest a visit to Miari (they take credit cards) or get a korean friend to take you to a "Sports Massage" in gangnam.

You're like Michael J Fox in "Casualities of War" He sees an asian girl who doesn't even resemble the woman from the past he knows and he has a vietnam flashback.

Umm, apparently the "protestant hangups" have caught on in Korea as prostitution has been illegal for a few years now and there are occasional symbolic crack-downs. From what I've heard, Miari and the other red-lights, while still operational, are ghost towns compared to what they once were. I think the law started in '05?

Does it still happen? Sure. But it is illegal, just as in the States, Japan, and many other countries.

This isn't Thailand. I would certainly call seeing a former student step out of a brothel as a compromising situation.

As for me, the worst I've seen was an underage (by a year) student at a hof. No biggie.

This reminds me of a funny story I heard earlier this year. This teacher at a local high school in Canada went to a strip club with his buddies on night. They are having a great time when all of a sudden, one of his former students is standing infront of him asking if he wants a lap dance. I guess you can say UNCOMFORTABLE. Needless to say, he had to book outta that place fast.

Interesting story. As you said, her business and hope business is good.
I admit its tough when you see a former student in a compromising position or waiting on you at the local Dennys. Thats life though, slap on a smile and go.about your business.
Have to admit, Id also be out the door if I saw a former, or current student on stage.

For the rest of the posters:

Do you think stupid is a game you have to win? It certainly appears so as you are all putting in A LOT of extra effort.
Fantasies? Protestant hang-ups?
Seriously stupid isnt a game, some times what people say is what they mean and you dont have to go all out stupid on them for stuff that isnt there trying to get a few extra moron points.

it is sad.

i know a couple of students headed in that direction: poor and lazy but pretty and pandering, not too smart either

this country just eats them up, in a hush-hush don't talk about it, let them do it and commit suicide later sort of way

Doesn't resemble? You couldn't be more wrong. It's the same actress portraying both women. The rationale for having the same actress for both parts was so the resemblance would trigger the flashback.

By the way, that movie is a true story. The cinematic version only had two differences from the book on which it was based.

You're funny. It's so obvious that you just come on here to fire people up, as you're quite defensive of the motherland. If this happened in Canada, or the UK or something, wouldn't that be a strange situation as well?

I'm not Protestant and I certainly don't have a hangup with prostituion. I fully support its right to exist.

I also support her choice if the other options she had sucked (and they probably did)

it was just slightly jarring to see someone who just graduated from your school, that's all.

Miari, eh?

The depressing thing is that there'd be even more hot girls around than there already are if these losers didn't pay for sex.

I think a higher percent of the hot girls here are involved in giving up their ass for money than one might think...
