Hello all,

Anyone know where the best place to buy Indian curry pastes or the spices for making them is? Is Hannam Supermarket my best bet or should I look elsewhere?

Anyone ever see "Patak's" curry paste being sold in Korea?

my mate has some i think. i think he got it from costco. try carrefour too. or maybe go and hang around the arab/indian sector in itaewon. you might be able to buy some there.

I believe that you can get Patak's at Hannam, but why not go more authentic and hit the shops that cater to Indians. I know the shop across from 3 Alleys and Scrooge Pub has lots of spices and stuff for Indian food. I believe the shops name is Jasper Corp?

A store along the back alley behind Hamilton Hotel, towards the Pattaya end, has just what you're looking for. They sell all kinds of curries and mixes (briyani, masala, etc). Good stuff. Could be the place Peppermint's talking about. I stock up every two months or so.

There's also yoricome.co.kr, a Korean online food service that has the whole Asian Gormet series: vindaloo, more masala... good if you can navigate Korean sites.

Yes, that store kitty-corner from 3Alleys is good for those things. That's where I go to get my lentils as well.

If you want the bullion-cube style curry you can go to Hyundai Dept. Store in Apkujeong. They have a small selection of western foods (I don't know when curry became western), such as Kool-aid, and US-ified 'Vermont Curry.' I bought two packages when I went, though I haven't used them yet so I can't give you any sort of review. They're about 5000 won each and you get approximately six servings from each package, nine if you eat light.

I just took a trip to Iteawon and found the Indian food store behind the Hamilton Hotel that was mentioned above. There's a big yellow sign that says "Hallal Food". It's directly behind the Hamilton, you can't miss it. There are also a few other stores that sell the same kind of stuff in that same area.

Carrefour sells ready-to-make packets of vindaloo and chicken korma which ROCK. Also, all of the rice mixes are great if you add ingredients to them.

I'm not sure about Indian food, but for a break from Korean food I like to go to the Halal butcher shop next to the mosque in Itaewon. Decent meat and some mixes for masala, tandoori, custard, etc.

That place rocks! I got 2kgs of lamb shanks for 12k, and a 1kg roast for 8k, all good aussi meat.

Do any of these places sell halvah/halvas/halva? I checked the shop next to the mosque today but it was closed for prayer and I didn't have time to wait.

Definately the place across from 3 alleys even for Thai cooking their awesome..
