| You guys are talking about the real potential for weapons of mass destruction being used in the country you currently call home, and your primary concerns are being unemployed and broke, what about being dead or hideously deformed? |

Kwangjuchicken has a valid point about the jobs. My point is the money would lose value over night and we'd be broke. Double whammy. I believe South Korea is NOT prepared for an attack or military event even though it's well aware of the threats being placed recently. They'd rather chuckle about it, keep hush hush, and just say they don't know anything than to take preventatitive action like returning a threat back at North Korea and then rallying the troops to fight. Hey, if a neighbor is threatening my livelyhood, I'd be up in arms. It really pees me off how South Korea squeemishly saves face when it comes to anything derogotory or corrupt. I feel they should take a stand instead of sitting and waiting for something to happen.
Sure it's going to happen, but when is the big question. Well, hopefully not this year, but things sure are escalating to unprecidented levels recently. Your mom is worried about you as is mine. OK, enough drama especially after this monthly war siren just went off that left the Koreans chuckling and looking out the window. |
Although my students do not think it is a big thing, I saw on the news that some place in Seoul there was a big protest and South Koreans were burning Noth Korean flags. As crazy as the guy up north is (No, not Santa) that could set him off (pun intended). But, with the north pole melting Santa is now on Paxil.  |

-Tokyo is overdue for a massive, extinction-level earthquake.
-There's currently an asteroid hurtling curiously closer to the Earth.
-Climate change, the mass extinction of bees and rise in sea levels might be irreversable.
-There's a supermassive volcanoe under Yellowstone that, if it blew, would blanket half the globe in an acidic cloud of ash and death
-Vast areas of the ocean are 'going dead' for unknown reasons
-More diseases have shown greater resistance to all known vaccines
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
I could be running around the street in my underpants, shrieking in fear, but I'd rather save my energy to planning and working for a future that will hopefully arrive rather than fretting over events that, by in large, I personally have no control over. |

I know.  What a great time to be alive. The Rapture shor isa gittin close.  And the Asteroid is going to hit on 4/13 my birthday.  And yellow stone park (a super volcano) is due to blow. Saw a great movie about that. When that happens even Korea will have ash fallout. Things like this give me hope to carry on. Thanks for the great post. I had to stop antidepressants because of my diabetes medications. This helps. |

That's pretty much my attitude. Just recently lots of people were freaking out about the so-called "Swine flu" over here. However, it was way over hyped by the media (they have a bad tendency of doing that), and I didn't see the point in panicking for no reason. No point stressing yourself out over nothing! |

When your skin is falling from the flesh in your arms like a boiled chicken and your eyes are running like cracked eggs you won't spend another day being able to appreciate humor of any kind. What's so scary about being dead? I've spent the vast majority of infinity not alive. I don't think it will be so bad, or noticeable.
Now, being deformed is upsetting. I wonder if there is a charity I could hit up or a company/government to sue that would made me pretty again. I could volunteer to be the subject of a terrible reality show. I don't know how likely that is.
Let's just hope it's death or nothing at all. |

It's nice that you feel that way. You may, however, want to keep in mind that you have absolutely no idea what kind of complicated emotional history the two Koreas have with each other. You may also want to remember that there are still families divided to this day on either side of the DMZ. You may, in fact, want to think twice about how valid your opinion is at all, when compared to a Korean's, on this issue.
North Koreans are not a "neighbor" in most South Koreans' minds -- they are family. Just because they aren't telling you, the foreigner (I'm guessing American, even?) all about how they feel about the threat of war, or what should be done, doesn't mean they aren't thinking and talking about it, or that they are instead "chuckling" about it. I don't think anyone on the entire peninsula thinks it's the slightest bit funny. |
