Interviewer had to end the call in the middle of the interview to respond to an urgent call.
This interview is definitely more of an interview than the "conversation" I had with EPIK. I think SMOE is certainly aware of the increased demand for jobs this year and told me that I should look into some sort of teaching certification.
Furthermore, I think they're now able to look further into applicants' motives for working in Seoul. They asked me why I want to teach English abroad when I majored in *____* major.
Kind of nervous... I REALLY want this job, and it's not to pay off loans or meet Korean girls or because I didn't get into Japan, I genuinely want this job.
Shoot...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just finished... the interview took a turn for the better, but I'm still a bit unsure.
So the interviewer told me I should look into getting a certification, but I'll hear back about the results of my interview by next week?
Does this mean I HAVE to get the certification? I wasn't aware that this was a requirement. Guess I better start looking into online courses.
Does anyone have any insight into the innerworkings of SMOE interviews?
People in previous threads have said they'll take you if you have a pulse, but it certainly didn't seem this way from the tone of the interview. |

Well, I'd ask him exactly what he means by 'certified'. I'm certified to teach English literature at community college in North America. Does that make me certified to teach kindergraten here? What about someone who teaches preschool in Canada? Is she certified to teach university here? How many of us would be eligible to teach ESL to students of the same age as we are here at a public school back home? |

Oh, sorry about the lack of clarity. The interviewer was referring to a TEFL/TESOL Cert. |

Of course it's not a requirement. However, with no TEFL cert, no experience and an unrelated major, you are right at the bottom of the list of applicants. SMOE is usually over-subscribed (and from what I hear, this year will be even worse) which means you as a candidate who brings nothing but the barest minimum to the table, is a long-shot at best.
If you are young, female, blonde and North American with big cans they'll let all of that slide and let you right on through though. |

Stop spreading ridiculous rumors, they don't care about breast size. |

They also don't care about N. America vs. England vs. Austrailia vs. etc., nor do they care about skin color or gender. |
