There has been a weirdness problem with the last three teachers at our school. As a result, the boss has finally admitted that he isn't able to detect the social deviates until it's too late. So he asked me to begin taking part in interviews.
So my question is: What questions would you ask during an interview that would have a high percentage of chance of smoking out the socially inept, the peculiar neighbor, the geek? (You know what I mean.)
Prompt replies are needed. The first interview will be Monday. |

From my days of interviewing and hiring, I always looked for a person who appeared relaxed without coming across as arrogant. I felt that it was important to engage the candidate by being relaxed and friendly myself.
I would often ask the standard questions about work experience,or for example, ' What do you feel are the qualities of a good teacher?" and be encouraging towards their response, but at that time I was as concerned with noticing body language as I was considering the answer. I'd look for evasiveness to simple questions (without drilling them) as a clue to someone who is unsure of themselves and their abilities. If they are fresh off the boat with no teaching experience, maybe something like " So, what is the appeal to you of becoming a teacher?" ' How did you become interested in this line of work?" etc.
How a person responds is as important as the response itself. Look for good eye contact and a reasonable amount of confidence,

If you could, I'd ring the applicant's past references. At the point of landing in Korea, we've all had them (jobs), and if not, then our educators will suffice. When we apply for jobs in the real world, that's what they look for.... at least, that's what I've run into.
If the only references are Korean based, well......you know what to look for.
