This is the most fantastic Steve Schertzer article I've ever read!

"I am currently looking at a few places in which to teach next, including Shanghai, China, and Taiwan."

And look at this gem:

"It's not Jesus who saves, it's teachers. It's good and dedicated teachers who save. It's education that saves. I realize how dangerous it is to compare teachers to Jesus. I would never do that. Jesus tried to save others too and look what happened to him. If I dared to compare teachers to Jesus, I just might be--- well--- crucified."

Mr Schertzer, I'm sure I speak for many, many EFL teachers in Korea when I say I wish you a long, happy, long, untroubled, and especially long teaching career in China or Taiwan. I hope you love the place so much you never want to leave. Indeed, I hope you fall in love with the place so much that you never even entertain the notion of teaching in Korea again. As a certain rabbi once said 'May the Lord bless and keep you ... far away from us'.

1) I didn't know Shanghai was a country
2) I didn't know Shirtlifter had the credentials to get a job in Taiwan. You need more than just a BA or MA over there.

Anyone who is not a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed newb isn't really welcome in Busan EPIK anymore.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Schertzer last September during a Busan EPIK training week. He's an angry, angry man. The (admittedly rather hapless) admin lady gave us the schedule for our demo lessons. Through gritted teeth, cords straining in his neck, Steve told her "I... already told you... I have to leave early!" I offered to take his place, allowing him to present the next day instead.

Guess if he thanked me for my considerate offer. Go on, make a wild guess. He did have some interesting ideas in his lesson plan once he actually presented it, though.

You must be quite new. He's a lone voice of righteousness amongst a sea of unprofessional Korean and apathetic western teachers. Look up misanthrope in the dictionary and his picture should be there. Unfortunately he wasn't content with being someone a few people disliked and had to try to get his views published everywhere in order to become someone everyone disliked.

He published all of his 'articles' on his Ajarn Writer's blog - http://www.ajarn.com/Contris/writersindex.htm#Steve%20Schertzer . This is a Thai site from before he got fired from his teaching job in Thailand. He managed to get some of his 'articles' published in the Korean press before I guess they caught on to what a weirdo they were dealing with. The most infamous were his 'I own the classroom' piece and the fall-out from his betrayal from his Filipina bar-girl.

I don't understand the obsession with the guy. I don't have the patience to read any of his "articles." But there are a lot of guys out there just like him; he just puts his long-winded thoughts onto a blog rather than into your ear at a bar. I prefer this sort of nonsense in blog form because I can easily stop reading after the first few sentences. Getting a drunk wind-bag to stop requires a bit more tact.

Still, he seldom posts on Dave's...so what's the point? Just to rile him up and feed his ego by seeing his name here every few months..

He doesn't just put his asinininities on a blog, he also got a local English paper, a nation-wide English paper, to publish them.
