My grandma would say, "There's more room for it on the outside than on the inside."

She made it to 107, so maybe that was her secret.

I like how the panels on the restroom stalls go almost to the floor here, maybe if they were that way in America, women wouldn't feel as self-conscious about what they have to do in them. I personally have never concerned myself with this, but my roots are Appalachian, so maybe I never knew any better.

from the Merck manual chapter on "Functional Bowel Disease," subheading "Gas"

"Among those who are flatulent, the quantity and frequency of gas passage can reach astounding proportions. One CAREFUL STUDY NOTED A PATIENT WITH DAILY FLATUS FREQUENCY AS HIGH AS 141, INCLUDING 70 PASSAGES IN ONE 4-H PERIOD. tHIS SYMPTON, WHICH CAN CAUSE GREAT PSYCHOSOCIAL DISTRESS, HAS BEEN UNOFFICIALLY AND HUMOROUSLY DESCRIBED ACCORDING TO IT'S SALIENT CHARACTERSISTICS; (1) THE 'SLIDER' (CROWDED ELEVATOR TYPE), WHICH IS RELEASED SLOWLY AND NOISELESSLY, SOMETIMES WITH DEVASTATING EFFECT; (2) THE OPEN SPHINCTER, OR "POOH" TYPE, WHICH IS SAID TO BE OF HIGHER TEMPERATURE AND MORE AROMATIC; AND (3) THE STACCATO OR DRUM-BEAT TYPE, PLEASANTLY PASSED IN PRIVACY.
WHILE QUESTIONS OF AIR POLLUTION AND DEGRADATION OF AIR QUALITY HAVE BEEN RAISED, NO ADEQUATE STUDIES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. HOW-EVER, NO HAZARD IS LIKELY TO THOSE WORKING NEAR OPEN FLAMES, AND YOUNGSTERS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO MAKE A GAME OF EXPELLING GAS OVER A MATCH-FLAME. RARELY, THIS USUALLY DISTRESSING SYMPTOM HAS BEEN TURNED TO ADVANTAGE, AS WITH A FRENCHMAN REFERRED TO AS "LE PETOMANE,' WHO BECAME AFFLUENT AS AN EFFLUENT PERFORMER ON THE MOULIN ROUGE STAGE."

Sorry about the big type. I was practicing without looking up. can't be bothered to put it in lower case.

Aw! That's kinda sad. Crying or Very sad

I read a novel by some weirdo where a gangster dragged this poor absent-minded professor into a stall and then forced him to watch while he took a crap. There was a long, pseudo-philosophical diversion where the absent-minded professor considered how an intelligent person could never imagine such an effective way of showing disrespect.

I guess this isn't just a Korean thing either. I'm currently in the USA, and I've noticed that a lot of my Asian friends here that weren't born in the USA have no problem letting it rip in public.

Scatology is alive and well in Korea. I remember a Korean homestay student staying with the parents back home talking about how Koreans love to talk and joke about farts, foul smelling excrement, and the like. In fact, by coincidence, I was at the gym today and caught the latter half of a Korean comedy on the topic. Apparently, the mother and father were trying to find out why their baby's crap was smelling up the house, making guests gag and run out the door.

It even happened to me at my elementary school. I walked into the first floor washroom to find a group of students, male and female huddled outside the washroom entrance. I just thought they were playing around so I paid no heed, but once I got inside, the stench was so overwhelming, so putrid, that I hightailed it out of there. Some kid inside was releasing some ancient yuletide logs and one whiff was enough to get me running. The students howled with laughter. I'm sure this kid became a mini celebrity for having the foulest, most loathsome smelling crap in the school.

I also often walk down an innocuous street and hear a loud and healthy fart coming from a nearby pedestrian. At first I thought I was imagining things, but the wind sometimes carries really unpleasant reminders that this ain't Kansas Dorothy.

You guys have it all wrong. Rolling Eyes

All you have to do is this:

Walk by someone, let one roll, and then if anyone seems to notice the sound, or smell, pick someone and just stare at them long and hard enough as if the targeted person was the culprit. It's that simple. Oh, and don't forget to make your face cringe slightly, as if disgusted. Very Happy

Instant gratification and exoneration!
