The Situation:
I've lived above a restaurant on the edge of Itaewon since September. There is one apartment next door to mine - also above the restaurant. At first this was inhabited by the restaurant's owners - a quiet husband and wife who went to sleep at normal times. They moved earlier this year and were replaced by a couple of much younger guys (and now some girl has joined them). I've had constant problems with noise from the retaurant - music blaring either from 9am or even worse all night long.
Unfortunately when standing outside, the music can barely be heard but as my bedroom lies smack on top of their large tv (which hangs from the restaurant's ceiling) The noise vibrates all through my walls. In the past Ive had to pound on the window at 3am to tell them to turn it down, have complained to my landlord and about a month ago almost broke down the neighboring apartment door in my anger. Of course the inhabitants couldn't hear a thing then sated that sometimes they have "clients" in the restaurant. I explained that I don't mind music or movies on the weekend or a Friday night but at 3am on Sunday-Wednesday is not on.
So tonight I've been kept awake by a movie being played at full volume at 3am. I am leaving Korea in 3 months so it's difficult to move out now.
What should I do? What would you do? |

I would walk downstairs to see how securely fastened to the ceiling the TV is. If it looks kinda precarious then I would definitely jump around and pound on the floor in hopes that the TV will fall from and break. |

Call the police. It worked for me. The police will tell them to keep the noise down after a certain time |

Since you can't get Ambien, Lunesta, and Xanax in Korea, determine where the TV hangs from your floor, screw in 2 handles on that piece of the floor 6 to 10 inches apart, place a bar through the handles to hold it in place, take an electric jigsaw to cut a circle surrounding the TV mount hoping you don't hit hot wires, lift it up using the bar to get leverage, disconnect the TV, let it drop, and discreetly keep the piece of floor in place by the bar holding it. Presto, you know have no more rattling TV in your floor at 3AM problem.
Guess a more peaceful solution would be to wear a pair of highly expensive big Bose noise canceling headphones to blissfully sleep to the feeling of a soundproof room. |

Hmmm, then how come in 2007 I was on a cocktail of Ambien (Korean name is stillnox) Buspar and Xanax for acute and chronic insomnia out in Hannam City (the countryside)...? |

Have you actually spoken face to face with them? Ask them to maybe turn it down during the evenings?
If not, I guess either call the police or get some guy that looks large and intimidating to get them to quiet it down. |

Find out what type of TV they have and use a remote control to turn it off.
There's a gizmo you can buy that will turn off most TV's. Here you go:

Actually, I've wanted one of these devices for Kimbap restaurants, hofs etc. myself. Let me know if you get one, I'm interested to hear how it works out. |

That works for straight nose. It does nothing for bass vibration. In this situation I'm sure he's getting pounded by the vibration. |

Is there any gadget out there that works for 'bent nose?'
Mine was broken about 20 years ago and is kind of bumpy in the middle of the bridge. |
