My brother bought a Korean lamp from Insadong for his girlfriend. He is visiting from the states. They put American bulbs in so it would work in the US. He plugged it into a Korean outlet and the bulbs blew instantly.
Is it just the bulbs that bursted or did it fry the whole lamp? |

Those American bulbs are designed for only half the voltage of Korea and most other countries. No the lamp is not blown. Just take a pair of needle nose or other small pliers and unscrew the metal part out of the bulb socket. Be sure to unplug the lamp first or your own bulb will get blown by the extra powerful kimchee enhanced Korean voltage. |

I don't understand everything. It's a Korean lamp, I have three of them. It had a US made bulb or bulbs in it. It blew. Was it plugged into a Korean outlet or a US outlet when it blew?
Anyways, you can buy the Korean bulbs from the big store in the Yongsan store or the stores in Insadong. In fact, I complained to the company a year ago that it was difficult to find the correct bulbs for the lamps and asked them to tell me where I could buy them. I wrote a few emails... and now, when you buy a lamp, you get a few extra bulbs. You're all welcome. |

You know a lamp is just a light bulb and some wire, right? You can't fry a lamp. Just like you can't break an axe. Bust the handle? Get a new handle. Bust the head? Get a new head. Your lamp is rated for 240 and you want to plug it into 120? Get a new receptacle and cord. Works the other way too.
My grandparents have several lamps that they bought in Australia that went back and forth from 120 to 240 multiple times. Just change out the receptacle and the cord/plug |
