| If you have been on your F-2-1 for 2 calendar years from the time your received your visa you can apply for the F-5 visa. It is no guarantee the immigration office will give to you. I heard recently that between 25% - 30% of the people applying do not get their F-5 visa on the first attempt for various reasons. I hope this helps. The length of stay you mentioned about 5 consecutive years is for someone who is not married to a Korean national. Because you are married to a Korean you only have to maintain your F-2-1 visa for two calendar years prior to applying. |
I was wondering if marriage would cut my time down cause either way I will have waited 5 consecutive years (or six total). In my situation it would seem reasonable to get an F-5 without the extra year...geuss I've have to go and visit to try and find out.
If anyone reading this has had such an experience I'd love to hear it. |

That particular rule is firm according to immigration. You could have been here 15 years and on your F-2-1 for one year and they would not give you the F-5 unless it was recommended by the MOJ for some reason. They are quite strict in following the length of marriage requirement when it comes to moving someone from a spousal visa to a permanent residency visa. I have never heard of anyone getting their F-5 before completing their second year of F-2 status. |

I applied today.
Cost 50,000 won and I had to sign some papers, plus show a couple. No language test; in and out in 5 minutes.
They said it'll come in the mail in three months, but we'll see I guess. |

| I have a curious question... Those of you on F-2's how long were they for? I have heard a lot of people say 2 years, but I am wondering if this has changed recently.. Masan Immi is only giving them for one year. Has anyone else received a 1 year F-2 |
Users, sexually suggestive avatars showing females in an sexually suggestive pose is not appropriate for a website that caters to instructors and other professionals. That's in the guidelines. Also, ensure that your avatars are not large. |

I just wanted to say "thank you" to all the folks who have posted in this thread with info on how to get the F-5 without hassles. I just received mine, and it only took a week and half.
If anyone else needs helpful info for getting their F-5 in the future, feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to send you the list of all the papers and stuff I got together and brought for my F-5 application.
Thanks again everyone! |

exit86, did you get your F5 because you are married to a Korean or based on time in country? |

Primarily through being married a long time here in Korea
(though I never bothered to get on the proper F-2 marriage visa until three years ago).
I am very happy to have finally received this visa. There has been a lot of talk on the board here about how it helps with immigration hassles, but I view it as an official recognition of my commitment to this country.
I have lived here a long time and plan on living here much longer with my family. This is my home. This visa lets me know that Korea recognizes this fact. |

Well written exit86.
It would seem your attitude was well matched with your qualifications for receiving your F5 in such an expeditious manner.
Congratulations and best wishes to you and your family.
P.S. And a note of thanks for the information you put together and said you would email...your actions are true to your word. |

| Long time since I have posted on Dave's, but I wanted to let people know that the regulations have changed little or none during the last several months. There are some small changes affecting what you can do at the local eup/gun offices in your city, but for the most part all is the same. I am working with a few people presently to see what will come of the new fingerprint law that has been introduced to the national assembly. While it does have the potential to impact other visa classifications significantly, it might actually become a benefit for the F-visa holders. I can post more information about if people want to get the low down, but for the time being there is not much to report. |

Thanks Cosmic Hum. I hope the info will help you and your family out.
If anyone else needs the info, feel free to PM me. It is a long list, so I don't want to post it here; plus, I don't want to be held publicly accountable if it is lacking something. Therefore, I'd like to send it to individuals in need as opposed to posting it for millions to read.
So, if you need it, just ask. |

Any news on American males being given an F5 after divorcing their K-wives. I finally got my divorce and the courts ruled that the divorce was the fault of my ex-wife. I applied for an F5 VISA according to the regs as they are set out in the Migrant Workers Handbook, but Daejeon immigration is not willing to even begin processing my paperwork yet. They said it will be a month before they will begin processing and it could take up to 4 months more before they make a decision.
My F2 expires on the 10th of December. What happens if my F2 expires before Daejeon immi makes a decision? Will they renew for a few months or am I screwed? Anyone know? |

What is an F-5-B? Are you married to a Korean or did you get your VISA some other way? |
