I've got about 5 hours to decide whether or not to spend
(a) a massive wedge of (almost certainly borrowed) cash, and
(b) two years of my precious life studying a masters right here in Seoul.
I just wanted to know if anyone had an angle on how a masters earned in Korea is perceived in the rest of the world.
Are all masters much of a muchness? Or would I be mad to do it?
Opinions, advice, abuse etc.
Cheers,
me.

5 hrs to decide? lol?

well it depends on the credibility of the institution. If you are from Canada, a masters from any other country is just a piece of paper.

What will your MA be in? If it's an MA in Asian Studies or Korean Studies then Korea could be a pretty good choice. And if you're planning to use the resulting MA to further your opportunities in Korea then studying at one of the more prestigious unis in Korea might give you an advantage too.

Probably better off with an on-line degree from an accredited university, then.

Now I'm looking at about three hours, but if you keep making the same gag it will at least feel like a very long time...

P.S. The masters would be from Dangook Uni. In TESOL.

Dankook Uni is not in Seoul anymore.

Do you mean earning a masters degree online from an American school, or from an actual school that's in Seoul?

I'm actually curious about the validity of a TESOL degree from a Korean university too, specifically how it would look to other prospective employers in Asia.

Hoy! Forum! Some of my replies disappeared, so I'll go again.
It's a masters in TESOL from Danguk Uni, an actual school, which (nods to Zappa) is kind of in Bundang. I've been told that it'd look grand in Korea, and most places globally would think a 'masters is a masters' but some would prefer I earn it in England/the U.S./somewhere other than Bundang.
True dat?

This is true with the exception of top American and British universities. A Harvard or Oxford degree is worth it even in Canada. I just finished my B.Ed with a guy who did his undergrad at Harvard. I bet he will find a job in Canada faster than I will. A Korean degree...well let's just say it hasn't gotten my wife a ton of people begging her to work with them.
