Hi, so I heard from my recruiter today that I got an interview with SMOE. I was very excited. I wanted to know if you get the interview with SMOE, is it likely that you will get a job with them? How harshly do they interview people?

I looked at publuc school teaching positions through SMOE. Does anyone know how likely it is that if I applied now that I would be able to get one before September??

I think if you only have a bachelor's degree, the deadline for SMOE was June 15. Not quite sure though.

Just this week, the questions about SMOE, interview, qualifications needed etc (what you have asked) have been discussed on this board. If you go into the search function and type in SMOE, all up to date information and answers to your questions are already there.

Good luck.

THIS!

Dumba$$ people keep asking the same questions without bothering to do any research on their own.

Search the site with this or you won't have much luck:

Ah grasshoppers, I'll share with you the secret to the SMOE phone interview.

When you get the question:
How will you relate to working with your co-teachers?
Answer:
I will do whatever my coteachers and principals ask me to do.

Whether its true or not, just say it.

Also, throw in something pro-Dokdo if you can.

Didn't you ask similar questions when you had your interview with SMOE and you were worried if you got the job or not?
Yea, thats what I thought...

Considering that every thread prior to mine was at least a year old, I thought my questions merited a post. I did read through all the old threads, by the way.

Since then, there have been a slew of threads asking (and answering) your exact same questions. I even contributed the questions I was asked to some of those threads.

I'm guessing you came across my thread after I gave you that nifty Google search link. Did the other threads you found in the search help answer your questions?

So instead of throwing my thread back at me, use it and the others that have been posted.

I'm sorry, but I'm just sick of people asking questions without doing any research beforehand. I just assumed from your OP that you did not do any research at all.

The mods should really make a "SMOE Interview" sticky.

It's cool if this is the hundredth thousand post about this topic...everyone wants immediate help. Totally understandable.

From my experience, the SMOE interview only took about 5 mins. Not saying that yours will be the same, but all they (he) really asked me was "Why teach in Korea?" and "How will you handle a new culture?". My answers, just in case you were wondering was this:

1. I've been overseas twice to two different countries and I've always wanted to experience LIVING in a country instead of just being there for a few weeks. So S. Korea calls and I am answering Very Happy Not only that, but I've always had a passion for kids (no lie).

2. As I stated before, I've been to two different countries so I know how it is when one goes to a different country and experiences a new culture. Not only that, but I'm a minority (in the States) so I am, in a way, already in a different culture so I know how to handle myself in a different culture.

That was pretty much it. Two days later and I got accepted. Good luck with you interview and let us know how it goes!

I guess I understand this--although I still would appreciate if people did some preliminary research. No ill will towards you Mysterious. Wish you the best of luck.

Not really, I read your post beforehand. Anyways, before I was able to find a more similar post to mine, thats when I posted my question. I am also very new to this site. But yea, I agree they should make a "SMOE interview" sticky...interviews are nerve-wracking.
I finally read a post with sample questions that were asked so that helped a lot.

@wallythewhale

Thanks Smile I was actually reading your old posts that were similar to what I was asking.
I am also a minority in the States so I am not that worried about culture shock. I'm more worried about getting the job!

What?!!! America is a Melting Pot of many different nationalities, and cultures. With your philosophy, we are all in a different culture. You need to stop thinking of yourself as a victim of society.

True, but how many people can say that they ACTUALLY know and speak a different language? Just because the US is the melting pot of the world doesn't necessarily mean that a "white" person can speak French or Italian even though they are rooted in them. Heck, 99% of my "white" friends can't even speak German, Italian, etc. You get the idea.

As for my philosophy...I think it's rather true. Culture can be based off of your nationality or traditions. Fashion or your ascent. Each has its own culture...correct? If you want to discuss this further, I think the question we need to ask is this: "What is a culture?"

PS
I never stated that I was a 'victim' in society. Please explain how you came to this conclusion.
