Asking a Christian in Korea [Western or Asian] to actually do something outside of Sundays seems to insult them. I have tried several times. I get this blank look like "why the h... would I want to do that'. I mean ...seriously people... I guess Christians in Korea only "act or want to be" a Christian inside a Church on Sunday.

Personally, I would much rather get together with other believers before or after work Monday - Friday for a movie, meal, or etc... . Sitting in a church for an hour without any communication and interaction with others does not do much for me.

My theory is that a lot of - but not all - Koreans who claim to be "Christian" are really attending church more for social reasons than out of deep religious conviction. I've seen that a lot in New Zealand - meeting young Koreans who mention going to church every sunday but who basically admit to not wanting to go. They're just doing it because of the expectations and social pressures within the Korean expat community, and probably due to their own homesickness and desire to be with a big bunch of Koreans at least once a week.

Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists and Baptists are some of the larger Christian communities in Korea. You're also bound to bump into Mormons and JW's.

One church which might interest you is the one in Yoido in Seoul. It's a Full Gospel church with English services, apparently one of the largest in the world.

Seventh-day Adventists have English speaking churches connected to most of their institutes throughout Korea. The largest one is not far from Hoegi Station in Seoul. From the station you can walk or take a taxi to Samyook Hagwon opposite the hospital.

You can meet lots of Americans, South Africans and Korean uni students anxious to speak English. Small discussion groups meet at 10am, Saturday. Divine service in English is at 11am, followed by free lunch.

I'm no longer in Korea but I spent 15 years there. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm glad this post was started and thanks to all who have posted for all the info. I think I'll be okay finding a church now when I get to Seoul this fall. More than church information, however, it's just refreshing to know there will be fellow English speaking Christians to become friends with as well, and not just to go to church with.

For those that don't know the fellowship/encouragement aspect of that relationship (Christian friends), it seems to be exclusive or close-minded, even though it's not meant to be that way. I guess in some ways it is and will always appear so to others but it's fine as we all have our preferences when selecting who we want to hang out with.

It's funny to me that those who are so vocal of accepting everybody are so close-minded towards Christians who they find to be intolerant and close-minded. Umm... to be truly tolerant means to tolerate intolerance as well, no? And they say we're hypocrites.

I have plenty of non-Christian friends and enjoy hanging out with them, but there is just something different and special about that Christian bond (not that CHRISTIANS are more special, but the BOND that is shared with like-minded believers). I'd imagine any similar mutually interested parties would feel that way for that matter - sports enthusiasts loving to hang out with other sports enthusiasts, etc.). It's not that we're unwilling or unwanting to hang out or get to know people outside of our faith, but there is that desire to want to form a network with those who do; it's that simple. How is this different from, if I were say... an avid fisher and wanted to find others who were really into fishing?

I can't PM yet, but as soon as I submit enough posts to do so I'll come back to this thread and send my info. Thanks!

I actually have the information you seek, but since you've precluded me from posting on your thread, I have nothing to say on the matter.

Straphanger,
For someone who has nothing to say on the matter, why the post my friend? Maybe this is your pathetic need to lash your bitter tongue on an unsuspecting individual. Grow up. There are enough a__holes in the world, and we are in desperate need of one less.
